… and several other MT Artifact appearances back in Legion, so I thought I’d give my opinion on this divisive topic.
I actually don’t mind if Blizzard adds those appearances back in, although they probably would have to change the color schemes (like the Fel Bear) given that they did say that the originals were time-restricted.
What makes the original skins special was not that they were available for a limited time, it was the challenge that was associated with obtaining them. In other words, I don’t feel like my accomplishment will be diminished if they make them obtainable again. I will, however, be very disappointed if they are easy to get.
This isn’t because I want to gate them behind difficult content so that I can feel special. It’s because having to push yourself to get them and that immense feeling of accomplishment at the end are part of the journey and reward. I’m a casual that had to go outside of my comfort zone to get these appearances. I think I had close to 100 attempts when I finally got the Werebear, and few experiences in WoW come close to excitement I felt when I finally completed the challenge.
If Blizzard makes them easy to get they would be doing a disservice to those that got the originals and to those getting the new versions.
Human physiology is not uniform across all people.
When I have to push myself to overcome a challenge and I win. there is no immense feeling. There is only annoyance at how difficult that was to do. I hate challenges, and if you see me with the same skin you have, it doesn’t mean we had similar experiences. We didn’t. You climbed the mountain against all odds and reached the summit. I trudged through a personal hell and never felt good about it once.
I had many many attempts on some of them, ended up getting a carry back then. Was new to WoW and didn’t want to miss out on the ones that peaked my interest. I agree with ;
And while this has been repeated. Maybe I’m not materialistic and Pixelistic [not a word but whatever lol] but if it was a big challenge like it was for me before, I wouldn’t mind bringing it back. These tier sets are not the same.
Personally thought they were just gonna reskin the weapons
From the blue post it seems like they will be very easy. But I dont know how it would work for tanks. As a knockoff mechanic was one thing that made it difficult. They would have to remove that. I think we’ll see a determination type buff at the least. They spent way too much time on it and still botched it.
Like I said, I’m fine with Blizzard bringing them back (or adding new versions like the Fel Bear), but I hope the scenarios are challenging. One of the awesome things about the MT is that it forced you to really learn your class/spec. Completing the challenge was like a badge of honor, where you could actually feel like you had mastered your character.
If anything I hope you can’t just step in there unprepared, with blues, ignore mechanics, mash buttons, and clear it in a couple of tries. I understand there are different types of people (as Shreds mentioned), but the tower is specifically there to test your skill and knowledge in your specialization. It’s made for people who want a good solo challenge. I hope Blizzard stays true to that.
I support them bringing back recolours of the original rewards as well. May as well they are popular and I wouldn’t mind a new cat skin to go with the bear. I hope they reconsider the rewards.
If not I will still definitely be trying for the new bear minimum.
A lot of the challenges were easy thought, just saying. Kruul was the hardest for me. The imp mother was a joke if you knew about the potion that worked in there. The twins were a joke…it was just kite kite kite, burst down. And the archmage was easy once you understood how to move him correctly to not cover the whole area.
Did you know there was a way to beat her easily with low gear? A special potion that worked in the zone of azshara. The imp mother’s location was in azshara in a sub area…so the potion worked. It empowered you for as long as you were in combat and made you OP as heck. I was terrible too on my feral druid and low geared, the potion insta won me it while also managing to burn her.
Lol I heard about it only in these recent mage tower threads, that there was this demon elixir you could get that let you cheese it a bit.
I mean I think the tower “might” be easier this time around - but who knows.
Edit: I know I’m going to screw up regardless if it does happen to be easier, because seeing her again will bring it all back, I’ve kinda psyched myself out.
I only did the bear and cat in there, so I’m actually looking forward to seeing what the other challenges were like - I’ve heard of the infamous Twins, but never met them in person.
And maybe that is why there isn’t recolors of the originals. Because this is content for everyone to do.
I think it is perfect the way they have it set up. You will always have some people unhappy, especially since wowhead made people think they were getting the weapon appearances again.
So it never should be the people who did the content as blizzard presented, under the conditions blizzards had that are unhappy because they dont’ have the option to go back and get that time back they spent on things.
And it should go without saying but just because you view things in this manner does not mean others view things in that manner. The original thread illustrates a lot of people don’t think they should have brought the weapons back, even recolors.
A lot of the challenges were only at peak difficulty in the first activation, they of course diminished over time with gear, cheeses, and guides. They also varied class-to-class, role-to-role, legendaries obtained (at random) for each player. There are lots of variables.
There was plenty of time for Legion players to obtain these rewards, and there is nothing wrong with expansion specific rewards for those who were present during.
Blizzard has landed on their compromise with Timewalking Mage Tower, players who missed out on the ‘experience’ can re-live it with new rewards.
