I need help with the mage tower

I’ve tried it like 50+ times on my frost mage now. I watched videos, read guides. I farmed the gear guides told me I should have. I followed the spec. I got the enchants , potions etc etc. I just can’t do enough damage to the hands to kill them while managing everything else. Some good advice would be great.

If you just want to do it for the transmog you’re much better off doing the Fire version, it’s by far one of the easiest. In contrast the Frost and Arcane are two of the toughest. But tbh, the entire Mage Tower is a trap. They overtuned the hell out of it when they reintroduced it as a Timewalking event. The Timewalking scaling has literally always been bugged and is either ridiculously easy or super hard, the devs have never gotten a handle on it.

I think TWW managed to break this with scaling. I can’t speak for pally, but I’ve tried a few classes now and some have just been impossible (though to be fair I haven’t tried to BIS gear with old TBC gems or what have you). I did all specs and classes in Legion, and trying to redo them now. Just tried mistweaver for a few hours and I’m just getting one shot in P2 to the adds exploding for all my health, which is unavoidable when they die.

There’s a few threads about it on the EU forums:

That might explain it. Thank you all for your replies.

Yeah, like I said, they break scaling every time there is a major patch. I have no idea what causes it but it’s been happening pretty much every single time there’s been new content and virtually every time with an expansion pre-patch. Probably just a bad case of 20 yo spaghetti coding. Let’s not forget this game came out before “software engineering” was a proper job, lol.

i cant do it either with arcane

it’s 100% balanced around having hero talents in TWW right now i tried it as well and did next to no damage

It has nothing to do with balancing. They’ve never balanced the Mage Tower to account for new talents before, or anything else for that matter beyond the initial tuning. The scaling is simply broken right now, even outside of Timewalking.

I’m currently using all socketed gear with full agility gems and appropriate enchants. I have roughly 60 pulls this week. In total I have close to 100 prepatch attempts. I have “mastered“ and improved on the mechanics to the point where I know them.…I want to say “perfectly” but if that was the case I should have already beaten it….right?… Think again! I absolutely hate giving up on things so it’s hard for me to accept that I HAVEN’T beaten this challenge yet!! What’s worse is now it’s making me doubt myself as a player…. I’m almost 40 is that it? lol :joy:

I have prepared beyond reason. I have all the consumables, all the gear, gems, enchants. It’s borderline bugged. At this point it’s no longer about skill…in order too come close to beating Varris in Phase 1 you MUST find the MOST sockets possible on agility gear above ilvl 120 to try combat the massive imbalance we are currently at.

It’s like the devs cast a perma debuff on my soul until I beat this thing. It feels brutal unlike any encounter in wow, it’s out of place difficult….like “Dark Souls”……what’s that?

I knew i should’ve pushed to finish the mage towers i could’ve done before prepatch but i got too busy with life and other engagements :frowning: guess i’m not getting felbear till they take a look at it again or until hero talents at least, the tank nerf they did actually makes this incredibly hard (and i almost beat it a few times), Kruuls tank mitigation might also be bypassing mits atm as i’ve been one shot on the first one a few times through Barkskin + x2 Ironfurs.

Even the Ravaged Seed Pod couldn’t save me from that nonsense (also to other tanks, Nether Abberations might be super tanky and require huge burst aoe now instead of moderate aoe).

Also this would explain why Kurok Feltotems damage in everything on that encounter as well as the beefiness of the little worms was so huge, i actually had to run the shield heirloom trinket from WoD to actually beat that fight due to how much aoe unavoidable damage went out that out.

Its best to just wait til TWW drops for the scaling to hopefully return back to normal.

I am 100% certain its just a scaling issue because I went back into doing the demonology mage tower for fun and I noticed a MASSIVE difference in power. They were ignoring my felguard aggro and were chunking me hard.

Typically my felguard maintains aggro and I barely take damage unless its from my burning rush

It’s been one screw up after another with the Timewalking Mage Tower but they really messed it up this time. They should just put all the transmogs on a vendor at this point and also mail everyone the Soaring Spelltome like they were prepared to do and would have done if it had won the mount poll back in SL (but people had to go and vote for the Walmart knockoff Treebeard, lol). We can dream, right?

Good luck guys! I had to take a break for my sanity’s sake. I’ll be back when I hit level 80!

Yeah I tried it out on all three specs of warlock and I can’t get close. The damage is so high I can’t keep alive with stones pots or drain life. Lol

DMG feels low on them and I could never do the demo one. The three adds are just way too much going on.

I’ve done the worm and tauren one and the twins on other toons but on lock they feel absolutely impossible at the moment.

It took me like 150 tries to get the lock set & I about lost my mind stuff was so hard when it first released.

mage tower during dragonflight was doable

now during prepatch, early access, and TWW release, mage tower is very overtune for the reasons:

  1. our gear is still scaled to ilvl 120
  2. mobs and bosses HP, damage have increased not only once during prepatch but two times now after TWW release
  3. Considering mobs and bosses have numbers increased two times, then our ilvl should also be scaled accordingly right? nope, our ilvl scaled to 120 the same as in dragonflight

despite youtubers showing completion during these period, its pretty much still way overtune

i hope this is unintended

By the way, isnt mage tower supposed to be gear agnostic? why adjust the number at all from SL, DF, TWW?

There’s no reason adds should melt me so quickly trying to do mage tower for Guardian Druid. I’ve had friends try it after hitting 80 and it’s still impossible. I really hope they fix this soon

I was wondering what happened. I watched videos of people doing it and the mobs all had half the health they have now. And attacks that I know didn’t oneshot me when I did them in Legion now hit for 140% of my total health.

mage tower during DF was doable even with DF gear

currently, TWW mage tower guide on youtube suggest socketed gear in every slot that amounnt to 25 slotable total with ilvl 320 or less

i tried to follow the guide, but i cant find gear with that many slots even listed in AH

so idk it seems to be working for the youtuber, but i gave up this endeavour and hope blizz fix mage tower if any at all

Can also confirm, its way harder than it was in DF. The mobs in Highlord’s Return appear to have around 70% more HP than before which is insane.
