Isle of Quel’Danas, Tol Barad, Timeless Isle; I really miss those parts of WoW. Even the early leveling experiences from before you got flying off the bat and everyone was grounded. One of the big reasons why I originally rolled on a PvP server and what kept me from FF14 was that I liked that any random adventure out in the world could turn into a scrap with the opposite faction.
It still kinda goes on these days, but the second you win, they just mount up and fly away. Or you’re minding your business and get dive bombed, there’s no real anticipation unlike before where you could see dead mobs and realize you’re not alone and scout out who’s there with you.
I get that I’m in the minority here, not just in terms of preferring grounded WoW, but just PvP in general, I just wanted to vent. I was out doing world quests, flying from point to point and while there were scraps happening every so often with others who had War Mode on (easily my most disliked change), I just couldn’t figure out why it didn’t feel the same until recently.

I actually 100% agree with you but this opinion can get you lynched by the people who can’t stand the idea of actually interacting with the world in WORLD of Warcraft and just want to skip everything.
Well if we get a zone like that again…
Laughs in Riders of the Apocalypse DK “On a Paler Horse” to be permanently mounted with 120% speed.
I interact with the world quite a bit on flying. More than I do while I’m grounded on a character besides my rogues.
I really like flying. It lets me see things, go places, appreciate the scenery. There are lots of floating orbs for me to collect while flying. I go and mess around in places for the heck of it when they look unfamiliar and I didn’t even bother grabbing other people’s mapnote addons for this expansion because I’d rather do it all myself.
I don’t really care if you guys find that being grounded helps you interact with the world more. I’m weird. I get immersed in the game in specific weird ways all the time, like I won’t respec characters if the spec doesn’t match my concept of the character – so I quest as a holy priest, not a shadow priest, and never will. So I’m not going to judge someone else for their own idiosyncracies.
What I do find irritating when these topics come up is that like, there’s this unwillingness to consider that other people get immersed in and interact with the game in different ways than you do, and it’s especially weird after DF and TWW have shown brilliantly how well the world designers can do when they are building with flight in mind rather than fighting it. Being grounded does not equate to an automatic increase in immersion / world appreciation / world interaction for everyone.
To the OP specifically, I did enough world PvP / RP PvP back in the day that a little part of me does miss that kind of interaction – the… uncertainty around an unfamiliar area that could be fraught with PK danger. But the shine of non-objective-based PvP wore off for me a long time ago. So it’s more nostalgia than anything, at least for me.
I’m not.
I do wish “On a Paler Horse” would work in dungeons/raids where you could mount.
We did raise them in Undeath though…
<_< you do know Unholy DK’s already summon ALOT of undead minions right?
Yeah a bunch of fodder zombies. Not the canonically strongest DKs in the world.
Technically the Lich King and the Deathlord (player character) are the strongest DK’s. The Deathlord (player character) raised all 4 of the new four horsemen into undeath.
