I miss vanilla / Classic vanilla, despite how much I hated world buff meta

Pretty much one of the 2 reasons I didn’t play Classic Vanilla.
The amount of chores around World Buffs is brutal. I got better things to do with my life.

And the 2nd reason is Vanilla being absolutely broken across the board. It’s like installing Beta version of Win95 with only 1/3 of its OG features.

to each their own. Vanilla was never for me…so I didn’t play

World buff meta is so weird. It is completely and utterly not needed. There were raids of 40 naked people successfully completing them in Classic. It’s just proof of how insanely min/max the community has become. Look for any advantage. But that’s what they’ve become, so break buffs working in raids. That’s fine.

For a Classic reboot Blizz could literally spend about 10 minutes doing just a few very small, simple class changes that would make every spec viable in all avenues of the game. That’s the beauty of the fact the content isn’t extremely difficult. That allows the freedom of not having to min/max to successfully complete raids.

Now, I know that might contradict what I just said, but not really. Collecting world buffs is a hassle. Actually getting to play specs you enjoy opens up freedom and choice.

And it’s not that specs aren’t viable because of things like damage. It’s literally that they’re unplayable. You’ll run out of mana in 20 seconds as dps. You’ll grab aggro. Certain tanks can’t generate aggro. And these things are very simple to address. Don’t worry about “every dps spec needs to be within 5% of each other”. Or homogenizing classes. Just make them playable, and able to do the job. Vanilla content is so easy that’s all it takes.

Instead the dolts in charge of Classic did the opposite with SoM: tried to make it more challenging. They listen to the e-sport crowd yet again. Which just pushes the min/max mentality even further, and any possible balance changes become infinite more complex. Blizz has been chasing that pipe dream for 18 years and hasn’t solved it yet. Which is why they should just focus on fun. The experience. That’s the perfect goal for a Classic server.

You’ve honestly captured my feelings as well.

Not to say that I am not having fun in Wrath or that I didn’t enjoy TBC but these passed few weeks I’ve been thinking to myself I hope they release another SoM.

I think it’s the fact that the community isn’t as split up as it is now which allows for more interactions with people out in the world.

The simplicity of it all.

Vanilla (aka Beta WoW) was/is almost as bad as retail WoW in its own special ways. Mostly awful, poorly-designed meme specs compared to a small handful of overpowered meta-specs, awful gear itemization for most specs (& multiplying their meme factor), downright painful play for any healer who uses an HoT in a multi-healer setting with those using the same one, etc. etc. etc.

Couldn’t agree with this more. There are a handful of changes that could be passed out to several specs to instantly make them playable in vanilla.

Some would be fixed by simply adding an ability, others by changing the mana dynamics of their spells. The game could be so much more fun than it already is.

Vanilla being super flawed is good reason enough to like it, Vanilla is unique in many many ways.

Vanilla really is something special. And i agree with you, there’s something appealing about vanilla druids, in all their clunkiness. HOTW spec was pretty neat in the right hands.

Then play classic era? What exactly is stopping you from doing just that?

World buff meta was brutal. Like yay I already scheduled my raid with the guild but now it also requires timing at least 2 buffs and hoping nothing goes wrong with either of them or lol wipe on trash.

Chrono boom helped but it should have been added much much sooner.

For MC and BWL it wasn’t really but when you got into AQ and Naxx world buffs made a huge difference before you geared up.

Answered in the original post.

I only ever played vanilla druids as resto. Never tried any other spec lol.

Man i hope they announce something soon. I need my drugs.

fresh really is only fun while leveling hardly no point in raiding on a seasonal server

My opinion is different. But I hear yours. It’s not for everybody.

Which is why I said fine, disable it. Gear progression should mean more than some world buff anyway.

the economy will be ruined 2 weeks into mc progression anyways. i truly think vanilla is a game meant to be enjoyed over a longer period of time than just a 1 year long season

Yeah I’m definitely missing 20 minute flight paths, horrible class balance, even worse gear itemization. Boring raids, the worst version of PvP the game has ever seen, etc.

Vanilla is/was garbage and always will be.

Also loved the debuff limit so some classes were not allowed to use their abilities.

No worries,

Just find a game that keeps your attention span engaged.

My gripe with Blizzard is that they killed the clones, so if you missed the posts then you missed the opportunity to clone and keep a toon active.

Now you’ll have to start from scratch if you didnt

I think if Classic is ever to be made better, they have to start at square 1.

The big three Vanilla/TBC/Wrath continually perfected over time. A boy can dream.

I found boosting the only thing that was fun. When they took it out of the game, i didn’t find much i wanted to do.
