I agree, I really enjoy the whole focus on the class aspect of the narrative, even if it does smash classes together, like priest and pallies I think had overlap, and there was probably others, but I thought it was really neat, something that would be nice to revisit in some capacity.
The class halls were awesome. Descending from the sky as a warrior was awesome. Being a Dalaran Sewer Rat as a rogue was super cool. (Actually on that note, loved the head nod to the rogue class hall in the TWW intro quests).
I loved all the class/spec content. Made making alts so much fun. I really liked the artifact weapons too, and the appearance system. The artifact power grind was meh, but the rest was great.
Yep I definitely think the class fantasy is probably the number 1 best thing about legion. Them leaving that behind afterwards is super disappointing. It made you more deeply in tune with that class fantasy and want to play it more.
Currently in SoD they’re doing a similar thing with their artifact weapons and class questlines
The class halls added so much immersion. Really felt like you were being recognized and acknowledged as a hero of legend. Also had just a touch of a player housing vibe. I miss the Warlock Clubhouse.
class fantasy besides wotlk, was peak times in legion…
Man Class halls were the epitome of class design. why wwouldnt they replicate this , its beyond me. instead what do we have?
seems like legion was the last effort blizzard put into an expansion. BFA was just as good if not slightly worse but past those 2 expansions, blizzard seeems like they dont wanna design anything good anymore
Legion was the most effort they have ever put into an expansion and it was because they cut WoD early to go all in on it. The amount of content they added with all the class questlines was basically more than they’d ever added before.
It basically feels like everything since then is just a worse attempt at being legion, and by dragonflight they just gave up entirely.
I often feel like I miss legion, but then I decided to get my Netherlord title on this warlock, then remember that the mission board existed. That is a sore spot that dampered my nostalgia.
Legion was the last time I was super-invested in the lore of WoW, without it feeling to cringe or cheesy.
It was edgy, but imo, Warcraft is best when it is edgy, like Burning Legion, Scourge, Old Gods/Void- the best expansions all had edgy themes.
They were basically peak in terms of enemy forces.
Glad we’re fighting the Void (and Nerubians) again, it feels like old times in a way.
Dragonflight was good gameplay-wise, but the lack of the edge in the story was indeed felt. It’s War-craft, it’s supposed to have some sort of danger as an element at all times.
Peace in WoW, it just is antithesis to the game identity itself lol.
I mean for all the class campaigns they’ve made the missions only 1 hour each now so you can go through all the required ones for your mount in about 8 hours.
Yes the story has only been downhill since Legion. It was them going “all out”. The final threat of the burning legion, Illidan coming back, epic stakes and fights, the whole Argus appearing in the sky. Nothing since then has been close
Sure, but I was more on about remembering how much I disliked them back then and am glad to have them gone. I did enjoy everything else about the class hall storylines, and just felt more irritated than anything that they got locked behind timers. Plus, I really only enjoyed the story until the moment Illidan came back and usurped us as main character. The best parts I remember about legion was the power fantasy and illusion of player agency, but all that went out the window the moment it became the Illidan and Dadgar show.
Nothing can really beat World Ending Demons, Good Follower Questing table that you could get a good gold income from (before nerf at end), and or just the general feeling of more comradery and teamwork that Legion brought. Many fond memories of Legion since I started Mid Expansion when I first came to WoW!
I miss Legion too man, was truly the peak of wow for me personally with Wrath being my starting point. Sometimes I think I should have quit when Legion ended. Would have been the perfect time to do so seeing what we have been given after.
Legion zones were ok, but not great. The only one I can stand is…umm…none of them actually? The one with the azure dragons was ok I guess.
That sounds like a PC issue not an expansion issue. I have had 0 performance drops in any expansion outside of mass swarms of people or launch day issues.
It was Illidan fanfiction. That’s it. Boring as hell.
You mean having 1 weapon design for the entire expansion? And all of them locked to 1 class. Awful.
It also set the standard for the next 3 expansions of borrowed power and awful grinds.
You could not be more wrong.
I can’t comment, I don’t do M+. But i do blame legion and it’s mythic+ for the hyped up over caffeinated toddler speed run play style of modern wow.
