Garithos: Racist to Blood Elves
BOOOOOO!
Garrosh: Also racist to Blood Elves
YAAAAAAAY! (?)
Well yeah, Sylvanas has boobs, can’t kill that.
Let’s be real, Thrall was the only good Warchief. It’s been nothing but Ls since the guy left. We just need him to ditch the boat anchor and come back.
Then brother, you have never heard Horde players. They revel in it.
Not a high bar.
its mostly just warhammer players upset their only faction leader got deleted. garrosh isnt good writing whatsoever or interesting. hes just warhammer lite.
Garrosh was the beginning of the trend of hotheaded characters who are super emotional like a 14 year old girl with a mood disorder.
Varian being his alliance counterpart was similar.
Then there is Tyrande who we heard nothing of in vanilla or BC, who I got the (mistaken) impression was a wise motherly figure based on her background as a several thousand year old elf who is the leader of an elite military unit and a high priestess … when she finally showed up in MoP, they wrote her as a rude impetuous brat who got lectured on military tactics by a 40+ year old Varian - a literal toddler in elf years. “Patience Tyrande.” …
Then of course there is Sylvanas … who I always assumed was a quiet behind the scenes manipulator-type due to her no-show in vanilla and BC. Again we got an over emotional teen girl type character … what a disappointment.
Now we have her sister … exact same archetype.
It seems this is one of the few types of character Blizzard knows how to write.
His stock grew in time. so the GDS grew.
He got some villain competition later. But…
I could almost like Sire D in top wow villain list.
But, he was just a higher up minion as presented. Taken away too soon so all we had was mr nipples. Being subordinate to mr. nipples…a job is a job I guess.
And the dreadlord lore became the victims of a retcon drive by. Look at my minions! goes sire D
I lost track of their double agent layers. Sire D and his dreadlord army plan can only be as good as his writers. they failed him here.
But I give points for some great voice acting. You can only polish a turd up so much though.
Did you play MoP Remix? Lot of Gary action going on with that.
No.
… who would miss a character so one dimensional he makes pineapples seem like they have a compelling character story…?
Garrosh, Arthas and Nathanos are all characters that weren’t gone and never to return soon enough.
dont even get me started on what their ‘writers’ and ‘artists’ did to her.
Bring back Garrosh and Garithos and arrange some kind of event like Trial of the Crusader, I’d really like to know how an exchange between these 2 would be, I’m 100% sure it’d be better that absolutely everything our current meek bosses have said for the past 10 years combined.
Garithos: An orange skinned orc? How much can their filthy race degenerate? You are a plague upon our world, humanity cannot tolerate your kind.
Garrosh: What’s this? The banshee’s human pet pig? Shut your mouth weakling, or I’ll make sure your head looks better on a spike.
Garithos: The banshee tricked me once but never again… Besides, she became your Warchief didn’t she? Of course a dead witch would lead a band of filthy mongrel races, the lesser races should learn their place.
Garrosh: You (to whatever faction’s leader organized the event), muzzle your human dog before I cut this inferior pink skinned weakling to shreds and feed him to my wolf.
Garithos: Is that so? I’d like to see you try, inhuman beast.
Garrosh: Enough, I’ll show you how a true orc deals with garbage weaklings such as yourself!
(they get interrupted by the event’s organizer)
I’d pay to see something like this, over and over lol
And?
Lol, he was quintessential orc dialed up to 11 in his later phases. You got a problem with a bit of blood and thunder eh?
And hell yeah, blood for the blood god. Seems like I wouldn’t expect you to understand.
Alot of people actually. He was good for the game. He was more warcraft than anything I’ve seen in Garbagelands, DF or TWW.
You got any opinions on Malfurion?
That’d certainly be alot of fun. Garithos was just so good at being unlikable, but there are so many softies that would be up in arms about having a Garithos in WoW ever again
He is elegance in simplicity, to some.
its worked better than “I have a cunning plan!”.
I, evil villain, will need 25 brave heroes as key to my plan. and a dead planet called argus. And this has to run for 10K years.
As legion (with dreadlord double agents) have had play dates with night elves as far back as 10K years.
this had me look at mop start, garrosh going you know here is my plan. And liking it. I want every inch of this new land coated in alliance blood!
Crude, yes. But elegant simplicity.
See for later villains I think wow was going for copying warhammer, again. the machinations of tzeentch are beyond mortal minds to comprehend after all.
They didn’t pull this off well, imo. But garrosh pulled off Khorne inspired pretty good. Keep dropping bodies till none are left.
Did you play WC3? She spent practically all her on-screen time getting in arguments with everybody (except Shandris, who was and is her devoted little follower). She argued with Furion about freeing Illidan, ran off and killed a bunch of her own people (!) to do it, and then immediately turned on Illidan when she realized he had taken up demonic powers again. Then she got in a fight with the Horde and Alliance before Furion told her they needed help beating the Legion. She didn’t get along with Maiev (but who does?) and impulsively decided to help Kael against the undead, which nearly got her killed.
It turns out that when you spend 10,000 years as the head of an insular community with no real challenges and no one to tell you that you’re wrong, it doesn’t do wonders for your judgment.
Again, very obvious from her first appearance. WC3 Sylvanas talks like a Hot Topic t-shirt and her only strategy is “use mind control to amass minions between me and the people who want to kill me because I use mind control on everyone”.
I never played the RTS. Everything I know I read from the WoW home page at the time and what I saw in-game, then I made some common sense extrapolation.
How did Tyrande survived thousands of years as the leader of the Sentinels with this level of emotional maturity? Ignoring that, how the heck did the Sentinels survive with a leader that got schooled by a 40+ year old man in basic military tactics.
The average “I will never serve!” fan vs. the average “I submit to NO ONE!” enjoyer.
Grim reminder that the story devs (and Tiffany) who patted themselves on the back for how ‘Spectacular’ the lore of Shadowlands was — Outright erased Garrosh’s soul from existence, preventing him from ever returning to the Warcraft universe ever again Same with Arthas.
RIP: Characters done dirty by that grotesque expansion of TERRIBLE writing
Yeah, BFA and SL did the story & lore dirty in general too — but especially for the Horde identity It’s something completely different now and it’s not something that makes Horde players feel proud either, the Horde playerbase just feels:
- Exhausted,
- Broken
- or lost of any hope whatsoever for any pride being restored or glory to be had.
Many of my friends who were passionate about the story & lore have quit altogether — but those who were sort of only a bit in, yet passionate about the Horde have also quit or still play yet have become spiteful of the game over the years. Those of which I feel aren’t too far behind from quitting too.
The only people I see happy about it are those that always hated the Horde and wanted to feel validated for it – which kind of feels like said-crowd got in charge of writing and drove that narrative for a homerun.
Yeah, I couldn’t believe Danuser & Co. actually thought they were cooking when they decided to butcher the lore completely.
My all time fave character, reduced to an anima fart and the worst & most unnecessary nostalgia send off of all time.
The burger king crown is also unforgivable. God I loathed that expansion especially from a lore perspective.
Anyone who thought any of that lore retconning was ‘good’, simply hates the IP, fake fans.
I felt bad watching Pyromancer have a mental breakdown on his YT channel at the time, but also laughed because it was hilarious
Because they hardly did anything for those thousands of years. They were ascendant. The only threats were incursions by little troll tribes and the odd bunch of quillboar, trivial stuff that local commanders could handle.
If you look at any peacetime army, you’ll see this kind of deadwood drift in sooner or later. Frankly it would be less realistic if they’d been competent after so long at peace.
