I miss CC and don't love AOE

Seen a lot of posts in favor of big AOE pulls and saying that’s fun. That’s cool, people have different tastes. I just wanted to put in a plug for the style of dungeon where you have to sheep half the pack because it’s too dangerous to leave them up.

The pull-everything-and-aoe style is less interesting for me, personally. I would prefer more careful and tactical Mythic+ (or whatever) dungeons where you have to figure out how to beat the packs and execute. That said I think there’s room for both. Sometimes it is fun to just blow stuff up en mass, but it’s repetitive and overall I prefer having to figure out the right kill order and sheep/sap strategy to get through tough pulls.

It used to actually feel satisfying to CC 1 or 2 mobs and make the trash packs not annihilate the tank.

Yeah, some of the best dungeon times I had were in heroic Magister’s Terrace in BC.

This exists now … and this is a manufactured problem by blizzard where one doesn’t really exist.

Let’s look at dungeons and the different difficulty level … Let’s face it, normal/heroic and even Mythic 0 (after the first week) doesn’t require any skill, and will never be difficult enough to require CC’ing mobs … obviously, that’s not the point. Players should feel free to round up as many as they can, because again, this content is so easy and becomes so irrelevant to end game content, it doesn’t matter anyway.

But let’s move into keys … As difficulty arises, all trash becomes more dangerous, and the higher key you go, dictates how you handle each trash pack. Where on a mythic +3 for a bunch of Heroic/Mythic raiders is extremely easy and doesn’t need to a slower pace with CC, a +20 or higher will likely require this.

Also, another thing that doesn’t translate well to watching streams is the skill level required to handle AOE’ing a big and dangerous trash pack without CC. Not every group can pull off killing a dangerous trash pack and for them CC is required. But then there are groups that will always be able to because they have the requisite skill. For example, they know exactly which abilities need to be interrupted and which don’t and they execute it well. The tanks know when to start kiting so they don’t die. Healers know which abilities are going to hurt the entire group as to plan a big AOE heal ability. DPS need to know which of the trash pack has a frontal cone that will one-shot them.

There are countless other skill checks needed for difficult enough content, but the point I’m trying to make is, there is not much Blizzard can do to stop skilled groups from rounding up huge packs of mobs. The players have just gotten that good and lesser skilled groups will always need to CC mobs and be more tactical. And with this AOE cap, it’s still not going to change much, because there are plenty of classes that still have uncapped abilities or cap at 8, or soft cap at 5 and DR the rest.

If they truly wanted to prevent this, they would need to hard cap every ability to like 3 mobs at once and that’s it. But that would be terrible and certainly kill the game.

TL;DR
The game right now is very tactical and pulling large trash packs requires skill and coordination for a group running content at the intended item level or more difficult to that. Blizzard, for some reason don’t understand.

I like a decent mix. I don’t wanna take 10 min to CC and kill every little group, but mindlessly running from boss to boss AOEing everything was just as mind numbingly boring as well.

They’re bringing it back. Be patient and optimistic! I think they’re close to implementing it as we speak

I’d depends on the level we are talking for sure. At 15s, we arent pulling wall to wall. We plan out our pulls and skip those that we dont want to deal with.

As for your cc tactic, pugs are a mess as it is. This would make it more frustrating. That’s the only issue I can see.

Crowd Control is like chewing your food
Current preference is to just inhale and hope nothing gets caught on the way down.

here we gooooo LFR Heroes who have never done any real content talking bout game not requiting players to use their whole tool kit and plan out routes and pull and use CC.

This makes me beyond tilted. go do some real freaking content. jfc.

  1. You can still CC mobs if you want to.

  2. CC’ing mobs and pulling 3 mobs at a time is an extremely low difficulty ceiling. While mobs can hit hard, sure, we have 2 years to figure out these pulls in the dungeons we’ll be doing over and over. It will not take long at all to figure out how to interrupt them.

  3. Pulling big AoE pulls requires more far CC and interrupt responsibility than pulling smaller packs. It requires much more coordination. The people who suggest big pulls is as easy as just grabbing mobs and AoEing them down are not people who have actually done said pulls at any respectable key level. A missed interrupt, stun, or other CC when pulling multiple packs can easily lead to a wipe. That is not true in smaller pulls.

When we look back at Classic dungeons that encouraged pulls like this, those dungeons were hardly meant to be repeated in the same way M+ dungeons are. They were used for gearing and leveling, so it made sense that they were to be done slower.

M+ is about replayability. The type of pulling you are saying you want was heavily encouraged in seasons 1 and 3. It’s not a coincidence that those two were by far the LEAST popular seasons. They heavily required you to pre-CC before pulling mobs, and people just chose to do less M+.

Just look at this poll,

Because Mythic is the Diablo 3 of dungeon running

I thought folks CC’d pretty often in higher Mythic+ keys? Granted this is hearsay, but I mean, I trust the folks I hear it from lol.

It doesn’t really matter what analogy you want to use for it, Mythic+ has been BY FAR the most popular feature added to the game in a long, long, long time. BFA was the most successful iteration of it by numbers. Whatever you want to call it, its model works.

You mean higher level m+.

Memories…

Now it is all… Pets ignore CC, AoEs ignore CC, in fact, just dont even CC anything.

I remember being a hunter, pulling a single mob, and keeping it trapped for multiple ice traps.

I miss the days of teamwork.

This doesn’t make any sense. It requires immense teamwork to pull off AoE pulls in any key that isn’t a +0. You have to interrupt and stun/CC mobs repeatedly in big pulls to make sure you don’t just wipe.

And if you do this,

AoEs ignore CC, in fact, just dont even CC anything.

you simply fail the key.

It honestly sounds like people haven’t done M+ but are very confident that they know what happens in these dungeons??

Not really, no.

Oh I know its popular. Face-roll always is.

So do higher keys.

What do you mean by face-roll?

Face roll indicates easy content. Are you saying high M+ AoE pulls are easy content?

Warfronts are faceroll content. I would not say they are popular.
