Monster single target casted bombs, no melee garbage. Slow predictable damage going out in encounters. Never had to worry about aoe healing because yours was hot garbage.
Cata pally healing was the best healing.

Yes, BFA and onwards has been a trainwreck for holy paladins who enjoy playing healers

Mythic plus has been a disaster for anyone who just wants to heal. Dps is mandatory. Even worse for paladins, its part of their healing rotation now!

I didn’t play in Cata, but I loved holy pally in WoD. Those juicy mastery shields and never even looking at my mana bar thanks to that trinket in the last raid. It was so much fun.
I thought MoP was glorious, in PvP at least. There was a passive that gave you Holy power when you were CCd and Judgment generated Holy power as well, also Divine Purpose was like 25 percent chance. With 3 stack selfless healer and 6 second Judg cooldown, I barely needed to cast anything.
Also - spammable 360 AoE heal hp generator.

I have played Holy since summer of 2005, and I liked Cata the most of any expansion:
- They didn’t yet have a philosophy that drove them to prune prune prune
- We received four new heals (Divine Light, Holy Radiance, Light of Dawn, and Word of Glory) when we hadn’t gotten any new direct healing spells in TBC or WotLK
- We had a ranged damage spell with no cooldown (Exorcism at the time)
- We had a satisfying-to-cast holy power spender while soloing (Inquisition at the time)
- We ended up getting an interrupt
- We still had blessings and seals to round out our kits a little
And yes, the healing was pretty good back then, too!
I miss Holy Radiance, but with things like Merciful Auras, Golden Path, and Resplendent Light, it feels like Blizzard painted themselves into a corner where they can’t bring Holy Radiance back, due to all the other small but stacking group-healing gimmicks they’ve given us in lieu of Holy Radiance.
Funny thing is: it feels like each and every one of those talents was given to us because we don’t have a group healing button with no cooldown. Put them together, and a group healing button with no cooldown like Holy Radiance feels redundant!
I really liked Cata Holy pal too. I like the self healing when healing other with WoG or Jugement.
I wish I had something else to pick over afterimage. I never use WoG as of now XD Just always sitting at 0 for no use
I’d take any form of Holy Radiance back. Also would like Selfless Healer back from MoP.

Good luck getting massive long-cast heal bombs off today though.
When Word of Glory crits during Avenging Wrath… boom. Combine that with the holy power generation from the Light’s Hammer 4 set bonus and you can have some fun.
Sure it feels a waste not to use Light of Dawn… but the power… it’s almost like getting the divine toll mega heal back again.
Yes I miss Cata too, never had any issue healing groups and always got annoyed being assigned as a “tank healer”. But better still was before we became armored rogues, accumulating HP before executing finishing moves.
I miss boomkins in Cata. They were kinda god mode in some places. Ferals good too, rogues and fury were. Pally in ret was…meh.
All the more reason to beg blizz for cata classic methinks, personally i wouldn’t mind going back to play cata era disc priest, still bubbles and atonement healing but not as cancerously dominant as it was in MoP
Excuse me? Holy Radiance was the most busted aoe heal in that expansion, and possibly ever in the entire game. I could solo heal numerous heroic Dragonsoul fights because it was so absurd.
Personally, I really liked WoD pally healing.
Wasn’t Radiance added for that particular patch, though, so the comment you quoted would be true for the rest of the expansion prior?
