in Legion dalaran NPCs would walk around you because of your importance and that mechanic hasn’t been seen since. I feel we’re a bit overdue for us being thrust into a new cosmic champion position.
I really hope 11.0 gets us back into the swing of things like being a general of a massive Inter-cosmicological Warhammer 40k-esque military and in the conflicts with planet shattering forces of Chaos. Void lords and Light lords and reforged Sargeras.
It was pretty neat in Legion because we were leading our class halls, etc.
I know GW2 would do that big time with your player being the canonical Commander and doing all the story happenings in the Actual Lore, and I kind of wished that it wouldn’t sometimes.
What people miss is being a character in a world much larger then them who can choose their own path based on the decisions they make rather than having a pubescent comic book narrative forced on them.
Because you elevate the whole situation out of proportions. If we go into the cosmic dangers again, then we lose being just adventurers. People were SO sick of being the savior of everything, the hero who can do it all, like a Mary Sue.
What the game needs is balance. We shouldn’t be the answer for everything. It worked in Legion because it was grounded through the Class Halls. Everyone came together and all the NPCs had a part to play. But we don’t have them anymore, because this feature has been ABANDONED ON PURPOSE (capslock to make you realize that they threw this away).
If you want to be a champion, then rally for the Class Halls. Be their hero again, go on missions, be an important pillar for the world - but not the answer.
