In mop i used to just level a character, gear a character, then play another one. It let me really explore all the cool gameplay mechanics each class had to offer.
Now its just.
“Well I could level priest- but that means 45 renown levels, a covenant campaign, and maintaining weekly pvp/mythics on more then one toon, and then stygia and soul cinder farming.”
And its just so overwhelming compared to what it was. Theres no ‘finished’ for a character.
At this point, they are just ignoring what makes WOW, WOW. I want to make an alt also but there just isn’t time with all the systems they have jammed into this xpac.
I did that too in WoD. Now, all my old crafters are camped out at pet battles that have a bag or pet drop. Crafting was ruined, as well as alting, so there IS a symmetry to the devs approach ; ruin all the things.
I have my main (warrior) and an alt (druid) ready to roll for the next 8 months of CoD raiding. I didn’t feel like it was that big of a deal to be ready. For me there’s been plenty to do. But then again I’m not playing every day for hours.
I have 3 alts this xpac. One character for each covenant. Dont worry about renown, you will get into cap without thinking about it, the catchup mechanics are very forgiving. With 9.1, you can skip the intro quests and get 200+ gear right away on alts.
Gearing and renown are not a problem imo. The covenant campaign can be time consuming, but that’s why i did them (i wanted to experience them).
I think shadowlands you have to choose a main because it’s hard to keep collecting anima equally on all characters, but 1 main + other alts are super possible
It’s about the journey not the destination. Play the alt and enjoy it. Stop thinking you have to finish it somehow by capping everything. An alt will never be a main. That’s why it’s called an alt.
I get it. Yeah, I loved leveling alts until Shadowlands arrived. Now I just ignore content, get 'em up to 60, max professions and walk away. Boringly repetitive content. Over and over and over again. Ugh.
Yes hard to keep up anima but you’re doing it right imo. I leveled a frost dk a Saturday or two ago and within the week I was at 40 renown and level 1 for all sanctums for the tier 1 bonus anima gains. Just ran lfr, did the daily calls, world boss and covenant campaign. Haven’t even started Korthia so I am sure that speeds it up more. Some of the turn ins were giving 2-3 levels of renown at once. Last alt for experiencing campaigns too.
I was big into alts throughout all expansions. Now I only have 2 toons that I play. Same reasons as you.
In WoD crafting was good with alts, but now that isn’t the case, because patterns aren’t as automatic.
Alts don’t need to be in top gear, but it’s hard to get them into any gear. I would like to at least do each covenant, but I have too many chores already. While many players complain about nothing to do, I have too much to do.
I guess I just need to get them into heroic dungeons and call it good for them.
