Hello Shaman forums, I plan on leveling my first alt tonight which will be a Shaman. I like all three specs, which is making covenant choice kind of difficult lol
I definitely care more about PVP performance than PVE, since the difference is usually much more significant in that regard.
Elemental will be my go-to spec, but I don’t want to completely gimp myself with the other two specs. From what I understand, Necrolord would be a good choice for me since its also strong for Resto… problem is, seems like its overall garbage for Enhancement. I also don’t see what’s so good about Primordial Wave outside of cleaving your Lava Bursts? Maybe someone can explain
I guess my question would be… what do you guys think would be a good PVP covenant choice, if I want to play all three specs at one point? I’m wondering how bad Venthyr Elemental is, for example, or Necrolord Enhancement. Love this class, but haven’t played it seriously since Legion lol
So Primordial Burst cleaves your Lava Bursts, and throws another lava burst at the initial LvB target. So they’ll get hit with the 100% LvB and then the 80% one from Primordial Wave. That’s before your mastery kicks in, so you can hit them for a good 10-12k damage with mastery. TBH there’s not a great covenant for all 3, as Chain Harvest is a slow and clunky cast for ele and resto, i don’t even remember what the Night Fae’s does, and Vesper totem suffers from the issue of having to keep your targets in range of the totem. I’d vote for Necrolord and just stick to Ele/Resto personally.

I’d say Kyrian is the best all arounder, but if your focus is PvP then it’s really not ideal; the totem is pretty forgettable, even if the Phials are solid, which makes the impact of one of the other class specific skills more meaningful.
I would try and narrow it down to 2 specs you want to focus on, like Tangg said, and choose a Covenant from there. The good news is if you do want to do the 3rd spec on the side a bit that none of the Covenants are complete trash for any Shaman spec.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the advice. I didn’t know I get an extra Lava Burst on my primary target as well, I thought it only worked for cleaving lol. Necrolord seems like the best choice for me then, plus there are some great soulbinds that help us stay alive (big problem for my DK as well)
I think I’ll forget about Enh for a bit and just focus on Ele/Resto, it’s too difficult to try and play all three specs on any class right now, especially on a hybrid class like a Shaman or Druid
Speaking of Necrolord and Enhance, Primordial Wave works the same way there, like Ele, which makes it less bad than it otherwise could be. In single target if you PW and then Lightning Bolt, you get a 2nd LB on your target too; it’s not just added cleave. It’s the weakest for Enhance but it feels better to press than Fae Transfusion (Night Fae), at least to me.
Both are very bad.
For primordial wave, it also duplicates your next lava burst on the main target for 80% damage.
