I made a new monk tank

Ive always hated tanking but figuered id give it a chance after a few years of hating it previously.

I made a pally since i got 20 years of shield transmoga and never ge to use them, and got to around 40 and just could not enjoy it or have fun. Play style wasnt for me.

I love DPS Monk and healing monk thought id give it a shot since i hadnt tried it since late mop. I made a new one so i could play from scratch a learn the spec. Im Almost to max level and the only thing i like about the experience is since i only play one spec per toon is after all this time is it almost feels like a newer class but in reality its just a slower weaker monk that dies slower than the dps spec.

I still dont see the draw to tanking where thats all people want to do and cant see the attraction to want to do it whether it solo or group play

monks are … literally the worst tank you could have made right now. they need help.

I like being in control of my game :woman_shrugging:

To be a tank, you kind of have to be masochistic. Or have a deep seated level of personal hatred for yourself.

You picked probably the two worst tanks you could to jump into tanking. Both those classes play abysmally with low gear (and Monks are in a pretty rough state regardless).

If you wanna experience the feeling of being an unkillable god who needs no help from pathetic mortal DPS players, pick Warrior.

Druid is pretty solid too I think. But yea. Warrior Tank or bust.

Nah, tanking is fine. People who think that are just babies. It’s basically just easier DPS but you get to set the pace of the dungeon.

Druid is good at surviving but pretty boring even by tank standards.

Brewmaster needs a plethora of buffs to feel good again, and they’ve been ignored for quite awhile now. Here’s to hoping after blizzard sees all of these posts of brewmasters quitting the game they’ll do something, but my fingers aren’t crossed.

Monk tank is fine to play in content levels that do not matter. This includes low dungeons and even low/mid tier keys. Monks are super fun and effective too in raids (especially since they bring a critical raid buff which you are unlikely to have otherwise given how overall how little monks are played).

Monks suck because their tanking niche is just not effective in relevant content (mid and higher keys) especially since warriors and druids exist who eat tankbusters for breakfast while being FAR easier to play even somewhat optimally as well as having a much more favorable community perception which makes pugging content easier.

You can use just about anything to KSM but as a Monk tank+dps-> Paladin and Hunter reroller I can see the difference.

Protection Paladin: Fewer buttons, more interrupts (just passively), more party defensive and attack buffs, a full heal, an immunity, a battle rez and more damage. Great party utility and great self healing.

Keg Smash > Flamebreath is toats fun gameplay. 10/10 would spam Ignore Pain/Iron Bark/Shield of Righteousness/Bone Shield (?)/Never playing a DH again.

i’ve loved tanking for 19 years. I have the ability to control the pace and tone of the dungeon and the other ability to sit and laugh when DPS decides they want to pull trash and can’t actually handle what’s coming at them. Tanking is probably the most relaxing element for me in dungeons or raids. All I have to do is not stand in crap and get the boss to face the right way. There’s not even really a need anymore to taunt from the other tank like there was way back in the day.

Tank takes a certain mentality. It’s often akin to a manager personality.

Dps hits W and pushes dps buttons.

Tank has to be aware at all times. You have to know the route. You have to know mob abilities. You have to know where to position things, you need to know your cooldowns, where your healer is, where your dps are, where that next roaming pack is, how much time you’ve got left in Mythic plus, and basically paying attention at all times. I can snooze my way through a dungeon on a dps character and pay half attention and still be fine.

Tank you have a great amount of responsibility and risk, but to me that is the greatest reward when you pull it off.

As someone pointed out, you picked the worst tank this season. The spec needs a lot of help. I gave up trying to push keys. I’m the type of player that only has one main (ever since Blizzard made mythic track so many levels) and then I just play a different game when the season is a drag.

I would love to see tuning to brewmaster’s survivability and / or level of self healing. Inherently, maybe the design of the spec itself is broken with dodge / crit stat stacking for lucky avoids or large sized heals. This takes control away from the player vs tank specs like warrior. Perhaps this works in raid but it’s a no-go for higher end mythic plus.

Monks arent big on modern warfare. I don’t think they’d have much use for tanks.
