Both SoD and MoP remix, love the idea of them, played a bit of SoD, very busy in my life, played a bit of MoP remix for the level 20 achievement, but what I saw i missed out on. I hope we continue to get something like this. There are so many old expansions that are just unused and forgotten about. I’m hoping for a legion remix for another chance to get those balance of power transmogs and raid quest transmogs or something like that, I wouldn’t even be against a BFA remix, I had some good memories with the first 5 months of that expansion, it ultimately ended poorly and I stopped playing before BoD but it would be maybe nice to revisit it in remixed mode.
MoP Remix was fun, but definitely had a few issues.
I think one of the underlying problems with WoW’s overall design is that they MUST find a way to incorporate an unnecessarily long grind into the whole thing; in the case of MoP Remix, it was the gear upgrade system. Even if technically optional, the fact it exists and led to some truly absurd power scaling did the whole event no favours.
The fact the game’s scaling was completely out of whack for the levels 60-70, causing players to quickly become substantially weaker as enemies got substantially stronger while the player lagged behind, did not help things at all. You pretty much have to spend a good chunk of bronze on gear upgrades to get back to where you were before the scaling turned you into a wet noodle.
So the event can be redone with other expansions, but they need to be a lot smarter about their scaling and power progression grinds. If players more or less hit the “cap” for power progression shortly after leveling, but still had a mountain of cosmetics to farm, I think that would have worked out better.
Legion could be the the smart place to go for the next one, especially if they just go wild with allowing players to equip as many of the old Legendary gear pieces as they can. There could be some interesting ideas to implement with Artifacts and relic slots as well.
Throw in some (new) re-colours for the Mage Tower artifact appearances as an unlockable, and you’re golden for an incentive to try it out.
