If my boss told me to create something that “looks and acts like weakauras” I’d say the cooldown manager is almost perfect. It just feels lacking in customization and very constricted.
We have trinkets and special abilities we want to monitor but can’t. We can’t monitor cooldowns on our mouse cursor, as custom bars, as custom icons with custom sounds/notifications or a glow.
At the very least I’d like to be able to add my trinkets and Legion Remix abilities to the cooldown manager. As it is I can’t see how much time my demon from Twisted Crusade has left to live so I have to guess when to use Felspike.

Overall it actually isn’t too bad I agree. There are some issues I’ve found with it so far:

For my prot pally the CD manager is not tracking the correct consecration buff. It appears to be tracking the totem version at times and the spell CD at other times. This makes it show the consecration buff missing even when it is up from the free consecration via Templar or when it’s still up from the sanctuary talent. Additionally sometimes it says it’s up when there is no totem or buff up at all…

Another issue for all resource classes really is a lack of power counting. Please please make a counter in the CD manager for power (such as holy power and arcane power). Maybe with a glow effect when it is capped. I just can’t get used to looking at my health bar to track power and the bar attached to the character often gets buried under stuff. It doesn’t need any conditionals literally just a number.
