I have been thinking this for years, but it’s finally gotten to the point where I can’t help but say something. I’m convinced that my account is somehow adversely affected by the RNG algorithms set in place by Blizzard to determine loot distribution. I’m not a computer science wizard, but I know true RNG does not exist, and is often based off of certain determining factors like dates or times, etc.
My account has had horrendous RNG since its creation in the first weeks of TBC. That collection quest with a chance drop rate? Others zoom through it, I’m stuck there for an hour. Farming transmogs? Mounts? Forget it. The frog mount in Ardenweald took me three hours of intense grinding, but everyone I know got the drop in like 30-45 minutes, max.
I regularly go 6, 7, 8 + dungeons in a row with zero loot. This is statistically highly improbable, but happens to me constantly. World bosses, rares, ores, random procs, you name it, my account has no luck.
Now, with Dragonflight, the loot tables on rares and bosses are so wacky, that the problem is only exacerbated. I’m a prot warrior with my loot spec set to prot. (Yes I know my profile is set to my hunter, my warrior doesn’t show up as a selectable character for some reason.) I kill a rare with valid warrior items on its loot table and get a crossbow. Or a hunter trinket. Or an agility dagger. This is a global issue. Why is this even a thing?

there are statistical methods to calculate confidence factors.
Nah, it’s just a dumb metric Blizzard uses to increase time played by gate-keeping loot for their “make loot feel like it matters” spiel.
Currently, across two characters, I’m on a 7 mythic + spree with no loot. Yes, I realize the probability of obtaining loot from m+ is significantly lower than normal heroic dungeons, but statistically, going 7 m+ in a row with two drops per dungeon is a 2.8% chance of me not obtaining any loot. And this happens to me CONSTANTLY.
Reminds me of all the previous expansions where i get 0 world boss loot every single time on every character during the first couple weeks too, till they added it so that there were guaranteed drops later on but that was like 6 months after the expansions already been out
Which obviously doesn’t work, or at least isn’t working as “intended”. If I’m going to invest time in a game, I want to feel rewarded. If I’m going to slam my head against the wall carrying people through m+, I want to feel rewarded.
The great vault is a slap in the face, having your lowest run take precedent. At least make it an average, as I can understand why they don’t want it to be based off your highest run.
I used to think the RNG was against me…but
I think I confirmed it.
This is amazingly annoying. I sit there, super needing gear and kill something to get a piece of loot I can’t even equip. Or if I can equip it, it’s not for my spec. For example the polearm my BEAST hunter keeps getting… WITH STRENGTH ON IT. It’s beyond annoying.
