I honestly love the idea of the Dracthyr race, I just wish they could be any class within reason.
Pretty much the Dracthyr can be everything except Druids and DKs, maybe Paladins?
While the rule that only Dracthyr can be Evokers be kept.
Give players options on how they play and you may find more people playing.
I’ve already seen groups of people instantly turned off by the fact they can’t be a Dracthyr Warrior or etc etc, only an Evoker.
Either way, I’m actually anticipating an upcoming expansion and that’s not happened since Legion.
I agree it would be cool. I think it’s a narrative thing though. The idea of them being essentially a “new” race, just awakening in the events of Dragonflight. Evoker is the class from a game mechanics point of view, but they are essentially just themselves. Just using powers innate to their very beings.
I don’t imagine it’s something they’d change for this expansion, but I would certainly hope for it in the future. After they’ve spent some time mingling with the mortal races.
I think some of the more “generic” classes would work - ie, things so common any race could qualify, but the more lore-heavy/dependent/specific classes being closed off is sensible.
You don’t need some long history and well established specific ancient power to be a warrior, rogue, or hunter for instance. These are classes which are so fundamental that there’s really no questioning their existence. Paladins, Druids, Monks, etc… If a class is less fundamental and demands an explanation, a specific origin, cultural or otherwise? That could be counted out.
This, this is exactly what I am getting at.
Things that are inherent to every race, and since they have huge claws Martial arts/Monk seem perfect as well.
It just seems weird to have “Dragons” and then not giving them a Melee Class.
Eh, Priest and Mage seem off - that would demand religious and arcane traditions that would detract from the “dragon” part. I see Dracthyr casters being 100% relegated to the Evoker.
Monk also doesn’t work because they decided that monks are ALL PANDAS ALL THE TIME. This is an awful state of affairs, imho, but it does demand Pandaren specific training, and if Goblins and Worgen are disqualified, Dracthyr would absolutely be too.
We need less restrictions in this game for character fantasy, not more.
It baffles me that in the wake of the new expansion hype and so many threads and comments asking for less race/class restrictions, blizzard finds a way to implement the most restrictive race/class combo we’ve ever seen.
Evoker being locked to Dracthyr seems reasonable, but it really feels like locking Dracthyr to only Evoker is very unnecessary.
If nothing else, they should probably have access to the most “standard” of the classes, things like mage, warrior, hunter, maybe rogue depending on how big they are compared to other races. The things that don’t particularly require some specific connection to some magical force or training, just martial prowess or arcane knowledge.
