It was late, I had been playing classic hardcore. On my third frost mage, each ones life snuffed out for ridiculous reasons- The first an undead, a foolish bony gal challenged a troll mage of equal level and died in the forgotten pools. The second, fallen to Son Of Arugal and each died before seeing his 15th birthday…
Now I do not know what had overcome me as I strolled the windswept craig for harpies but with a glint in this green orc warriors eye and the boredom of classic once again over taking me, I challenged him to a Makgora as he was leaving the front of the canyon. Suddenly he stops and stares across at me. Solemnly, my troll mage only level 9 stared back… and then it was on.
“Duel starts in 3,2,1”… my hands shaking with adrenaline as I realize what is about to go down. He has a level on me, he is a 10 which also means a new set of skills. He charges in. I try to frost nova it fails as he sticky glues me. “Smart guy” I say. I sheep him. Get back to max range, then fire a frost bolt. He strafes out of range.
At this moment I know, I am dealing with a veteran. Everything became a blur from that point on. He gets out of range and at one point tried a bandage, he’s even trying to exit combat to get re-charges.
Finally in a desperate final attempt, the skull comes out. He blasts me down to 10% hp but I am also a veteran. My skull returns fire. I am now sitting at 40% and he flees, sticky glue traps him again and defeatedly he stands there in the net and I watch as my frost bolts cleave him down like an injured gazel that’s lost the will to fight.
Suddenly as he fell… I felt regret? He logs out to fast before any words could be exchanged, in fact not a single word between us was ever uttered. I am now 1-1 and will retire on that MakGora record I think. Until inevitably the blood craze returns. It is the greatest adrenaline spike I’ve ever felt playing 2004 WoW lol
