I just want to play WoW, why is that so hard?

I want nothing more than to enjoy the game I've been playing for 14 years. I log on these days though and just sink into my depression because there's nothing for me to go out and achieve, I think? I can't put my finger why everything seems so futile suddenly when it didn't before.

Has anyone had this? Any suggestions? I want to love the game but I log in and just stand there, normally I would do M+ but the new dungeons are too claustrophobic for my taste so I don't find them fun, I also used to enjoy playing just for the sake of playing my class but something feels off and I don't know what.

Just depressed and wish my escape was still an escape
There are things to achieve.

The aggressive catch up mechanics, lack of reward from M+ instances, and boring AP farm make it kind of an "eh" time right now.
You just sound a little burnt out to me, mate. There isn't really anything that will make you feel better aside from taking a bit of a break. Absence does make the heart grow fonder they say, and in WoW's case that's definitely true. Come back when the new patch hits and you'll probably have loads to do again. :)
Taking a break will definitely be a good thing as someone said above. I've done so more way more than once through the years. When you come back you'll definitely feel a bit more refreshed.

In the meantime, try new things, maybe boot up Skyrim and get lost in it for a couple weeks like I do every so often. You'll feel much better in the end, trust me.
I’d take a break. I agree you sound burned out. Come back if or when you have the urge.
Its the burn out.

My oppinion, but honestly this Xpac just feels like more of the last one. Yeah, theres some new goodies but really I haven't felt like what I'm doing here is much different than Legion, which in itself helps that burnout feeling more.

Take some time away, unsub for a bit and come back when you feel like it wont all just lead to the same feel. Maybe bounce into some F2P MMOs for a bit to get a different taste, and return. If you don't do certain content, try it out. Like I don't really do PVP but I've been doing Battlegrounds lately.

Hopefully you figure it out, mate.
There are other games, other forms of escapism. Take a breather and try again after 8.1 lauches, maybe it will be better for you.
Try to level a new alt? I'm basically killing time with my 120s waiting for the new stuff in 8.1 (I log into them, check the mission table, do my emissaries and any pet token WQ, then log out) so I'm leveling some alts. Got a new mag'har I'm leveling with a friend, a new DK, a Tauren paladin I'll be race-changing into a Zandalari, an Alliance DH (because there are pets locked to the alliance vendors and I'm so mad, lol) and my rogue just hit 110. I just cycle around in zones I like, waiting for rest xp on the others.

Nothing like the comfort of favorite old zones while you're waiting for something new at the endgame.

I've been thinking of other games but can't really find any interesting. I would try RDR2 but I don't have a PS4.

Warframe might be worth a go if you're into 3rd person shooters. If you're not it might be a good starting point. The story's actually pretty decent and they're about to add a 2nd open world area that's supposed to be much bigger than the last.

Just keep in mind that it's an MMO, so...expect time gates and mat farming and lots of RNG. Also microtransactions since it's f2p, but it's mostly cosmetic stuff. Rare mats can be bought with the premium currency, which itself can be farmed if RNG is kind by obtaining rare drops and selling them to players. There's an actual market site for that to make things easier.
What I found to be calming is go to I high mountain near a world quest (on elemental shaman). After you soak in the view. Start to aggro opposite faction. Once they chase you thunderstorm them off and watch their body disappear and wait for that honor to show up in chat.
Or goblin glider and follow the soon to be corpse while /lol /lick /bye
Or que for eye of storm (on elemental shaman). Knock them off mid. Can spice it up if you have a rogue friend and run PvP talent to cast it on friendly they get knocked off by invisible and they are probably confused.
I don't know Boogiloo. I feel the same way. But I have a clinical diagnosis of mental illness, although I don't believe it mostly. Maybe just have to fiddle around with your mind and body and soul until you manage to function and find meaning and fulfillment in life.
You can do what I've been doing and give up on current content and go farm transmog in old raids.
Well i am glad someone actually uses the game for relieving stress rather than get triggered by anyone who plays differently than them bwahaha.

Op it seems that you need to find another game till wow gets more content that would keep your interest.
Eventually, we always have to let go.
Yeah I feel the exact same way. Where the is the grand end-game pinnacle to aspire to?

Mythic Dungeons ad nauseum and boring, lame Uldir are not it.

The Vanilla and TBC end-game models had it right by presenting looming challenges that not everyone can just walk in and experience, it was a journey to get there, a real reason to log in.
BfA suffers from a severe lack of targetable progression. There's very little in the way of expected accomplishment to obtain. You can't just login, and expect to make progress on a specific reputation, because the game can just tell you no, you can't work on that one today. Profession BoP's cost so much to make that they're nothing more than expensive transmog, with non-unique appearances. The Azerite system invalidates raid drops, leaving you with pieces you can't equip even if they do drop. The core systems of this expansion just don't encourage engagement with current content, and the next patch won't really change that. Unless you can find some old content to enjoy (which I'm hoping 8.1 fixes so I can), there isn't much reason to stick around.
If you're getting depressed over a game it's a clear sign you need a break from it.

I'm already depressed, the game was my escape.

That's what I've been doing.

Also, OP, spot on about the dungeons. They don't work for me somehow, though I really liked Legion's. If I was more introspective maybe I'd be able to figure out why that is.
