I just had a realization about Arms/2H fury Warriors

With 1.12 Itemization confirmed- is Slavedriver’s Cane BiS?

Staff Warrior confirmed alpha.

arcanite reaper is probably better; 3.9 may be slower than 3.8, but slavedriver’s cane has a bit less attack power and less base dps on it, and noone gets staff specialization as a racial, and there is no staff specialization talent
malown’s slam is more likely to be better, depending on the proc’s uptime

Chance on hit to summon a panda to fight for you for 10 seconds.

When you want a monk in Classic, you pick warrior and get this staff.

That’s actually really cool. Probably not optimal, but I like that it exists.

At the level you get it, not likely. For a RP gimmick probably fine.

That said. For any future warriors out there. Don’t shy away from staffs during leveling. They often have more dps than 2H swords/maces. Just a little “pro-tip” :slightly_smiling_face:

And what?

You said “they often”. Meaning there is more than one example. What are they

Ohh that type of “what” Don’t have any names off the bat. But level appropiate staffs often tend to have higher dps numbers. I know there’s one video that will name a few, I’ll see if I can dig it up.

Yeah reading this thread got me thinking. I’ve probably skipped out on a lot of good weapons as quest rewards just by virtue of them being staves. Even if as a warrior the staff has a ton of spirit, it would end up being surprisingly useful. Never overlook the affect spirit can have on a warrior.

Can’t speak for alliance, but as a Horde, I think I ended up using staves basically until RFK-29 for Corpsemaker… EDIT: As a warrior, or enhance.

The wailing caverns quest staff is attainable at 18

and the Xroads questing staff is available at like 11

Another reason I like Classic. You don’t have a streamlined set of stats that you use with stats that mold to your class. And even ones that seam unconventional, like a hard hitting staff with Spirit might actually be very useful to the leveling Warrior.

Again, it was an RPG back then and it’s not anymore.

Learn to hamstring kite mobs. There is maybe 2 staves with good weapon speed/good for their level. There’s an infinite amount of great maces/swords/axes with 3.6+ speed.

Ok, found the video. The guy has (for me) an irritating voice, but there’s a few named staffs in there, that are better dps than other level appropriate weapons.

Some of his points are good, like strength being absolutely garbage while leveling, and DW arms spec being useful until you get strike of the hydra/corpsemaker, but I disagree with his boner for spirit. In his combat scenarios, he’s using a 2H completely wrong.

https://youtu.be/y8Dn6X2QIZg?t=832
for reference. his basis for why spirit is so good is that it helps you heal up a good chunk of your damage taken. theoretically, sure, its good. realistically–_why are you standing there taking so much damage? you should be trading 1-2 hits to the mobs 1 hit.

jousting allows warriors so much more durability. Imagine if he had a 2H.

I was more interested in the part of staves being useful while leveling. As for spirit for warriors, I’ll leave that up to personal preference. :slightly_smiling_face:

Warriors can’t use staves till cata IIRC? Or was it they couldn’t dual wield them till then?

Sure they could.

YUp alittle digging confirmed you could.

Only thing warriors couldnt equip in vanilla was wands, everything else no matter how weird from daggers to fist weapons to staves could be equipped. Sounds neat until you get that awesome upgrade and have to go train to learn it ‘then’ march out to blasted lands and beat on the immortal mobs till its maxed only to get a better different weapon a week later and start the process again…may be a true story.
