I Just Can't

I don’t know what is wrong with me. I can sit down and binge play Classic WOTLK for hours! I can barely play retail for an hour. It’s just not fun to me. So much has changed, its like it doesn’t even feel like WoW anymore.

Classic wotlk has truly shown me that I’m not bored with WoW. It’s just that retail isn’t fun to me anymore because Blizzard literally eliminated everything that made me fall in love with WoW.

I’m not saying retail is bad. I’m saying that it’s no longer focused at the audience that started wow in the 2004-2008 range and more focused at getting young whipper snappers in their early/late teens.

I have a hard time playing classic WOTLK simply because I know it’s 100% a waste of my time due to the fact that it’s either just going to stop at WOTLK or follow the expansion train until it derails again.

I think the leveling is much better in wrath. It takes too long but it also feels like a journey, maybe those two are a package deal. Just like you, I can play wrath for hours consecutively, and I have! I can play retail for maybe one or two hours before I did everything I needed to do on that character (vault full enough at 4 keys). And then I don’t really benefit from playing that character for a week so I don’t.

The only thing different is that I really hope classic stops at wrath, or more specifically, has the option to stay in wrath. They had that for WoW classic era, that was cool. No realms were TBC specific but I really want wrath specific realms because I could play this forever. Or for several years until I hit the 50 alt limit! I wish we could powerlevel our friends alts again though.

respectfully…it sounds more like it’s an issue of you out-growing WoW. millions and millions still play both versions.

too many players tried to relive their glory days or act like classic would bring back some nostalgia they’ve been missing for years but it didn’t. players are different and people play differently now and nothing you can do will ever bring back what you experienced in your early/late teens.

play it or don’t. just don’t have the false idea that classic will ever give you something back that happened 10+ years ago or fill some void that people are missing. both versions of the game are played differently now and there’s nothing anybody can do anything about it.

Did you think that when WOTLK first launched, and you knew there would most likely be another expansion? No? You just focused on having fun?

Crazy.

Tried WOTLK and could barely play for an hour, I don’t like how old it feels and the fact that I already did all of it 10+ years ago. SL Pre-patch has shown me I’m not bored with WoW, just with the old expansions.

Different strokes.

I can barely play classic because I’ve been there already and it holds no interest for me.

I find myself enjoying the leveling part of classic a lot. Unfortunately I find the community at max level content is probably the worst part of classic, ironically.

Of course I also didn’t want to put up with 8+ hours queues on the server I had been on since day 1 and is now the only one of its type, so I started doing something else.

and now I’m honestly playing more Diablo 2 than I am WoW.

The gameplay between retail and classic have grown distant.

Leveling in retail these days is mind numbing - thank god chromie makes leveling more enjoyable by switching up the leveling process. I think the main difference is because retail all the real content is at the end-game. Leveling is just a speedbump I’d happily floor through.

Classic though, man LEVELING was the journey, I would happily grind out mobs and feel like I was progressing. End game content was there but leveling actually had some meat to it. There was more elitism which came from it though. Retail has it too but mostly in high-key/heroic/mythic content.

can you list a few specifics that you enjoy in classic that you don’t have in retail?

That is a very strange topic to bring up during prepatch. Why don’t you wait the expansion launch and see if you can play it more than an hour?

Retail has felt like that for me ever since the end of MoP.

It’s a game when you’re in the “mode” for it, it can make complete sense to play several hours a day or worse. If real life intrudes or things change in a way that breaks that what I’d almost call “hypnotized” state of acceptance (like say, changing the game the most drastically it probably has been for ages, maybe ever in one patch) then it’s like, “Wait, how did I ever play this?”

I was going to try Wrath but I was bored to tears doing the DK starting experience for the mount for retail so I decided to just leave my nostalgia alone.

Same but the other way around. I liked Wrath when it was current but Classic Wrath just isn’t the same.

That’s like telling an unhappy 45 year old alcoholic they should just quit drinking because drinking alone in a dark room isn’t as fun as it was at a party in their 20s.

I did the DK starter area for the new bone drake and had fun. Hoping to have tome to do it again on my wife’s account before the option goes away.

I do get what you mean though. Modern wow is very different and playing WotLK classic really highlighted that. I am sure the other classics did as well, I just never played them.

You don’t like said product, that’s FINE. Not for everyone.

The thing that keeps me wanting to come back is the combat. No other game comes close to it imo as far as mmorpg’s. It’s hard to master, so you always feel like you can improve something.

Probably just need a break. I can’t binge the game either.

I’m the opposite. I just look at my alts in Classic and think “…I really don’t want to level these guys” and just end up raid logging

Meanwhile on Retail in just the last 2 weeks alone I’ve leveled 7 different alts just because
