I hope they revamp the leveling next expansion

Man I really hope they do something with the leveling in WoW in this coming expansion. I’m not gonna pretend to know exactly what needs to be done… but I think leveling needs some TLC.

They tried to make it “harder” and “more engaging” previously and people rioted to the point where they had to revert some of the experience changes.

It goes very fast for the most part, but its so boring lol. Im not sure what they could do outside revamping the world itself.

It’s hard to make this change. Once people are used to the difficulty and the time it takes to do something, changing it to take more time and be more difficult for the same reward as before feels bad. You can always make things easier, it’s difficult in a game to make things harder. This is why a lot of Mythic raid bosses are released nearly unkillabe then later nerfed to the proper difficulty. Because they can’t release it super easy, then buff it later on for the rest of the people who missed out on an easy kill.

Which is why in order to successfully change it, they will need to change the reward structure of leveling. They need to do something like bring back the old talent system so every level you get rewarded. Right now there are many levels with no reward, just scaling up the enemies and lowering the stat scaling on your character literally making you weaker as you level.

The pacing in which you get an ability is incredibly bad.

If they quit removing spells i feel like this can help the leveling experience.

Just add talent trees back for each class. Problem solved.

Yeah I hope they make leveling a better experience. Personally I have every class above level 100 so I’m not going to be doing any more leveling either way, but I do hope they make some changes for the people who enjoy it.

I can’t even imagine leveling next expac from 100 - 120 if nothing changes. Since legion and BFA were all about rental progression, you will get nothing through those levels and it will be an awful slog.

if we didnt have a flat scaling world from 1 to 120 and could feel some semblance of progression during the leveling process it they might have a different reaction

The reason why we don’t feel progression when we level is because heirlooms have rendered the acquisition of gear completely irrelevant. If you deck yourself out in heirlooms there’s almost never going to be a situation where you get a drop or a quest reward that outclasses your heirlooms. If you look at leveling in Classic, one of the reasons why it’s so fulfilling is because of the possibility of getting new gear.

The level squish should resolve that for the most part, specially the 100 to 120 problem

nah you still get upgrades from boot bracers gloves etc. you get that upgrade feeling from them its just stunted because you never get to feel that upgrade in combat. Because of the flat scaling you hit mobs for the same % of health at 20 as you do at 50.

I argue the time of “leveling”, especially now leveling is just a grind before players can enjoy the majority of the content, should be such that players can learn about the class.
At this rate, how long does a new player need to spend to have a grasp of playing his/her character? I’d say a few hours, but what do I know, I have leveled every class to at least 110.

I am a proponent of a fixed level cap (i.e. hit 60 never level again).

Expansions have plenty of other progression systems to fill in the gap (e.g. Reputations, AP, gear, etc.)
