i have said i would guess over 50 times over the last 14 years that i am done with WoW, then i get bit by something and start to play again.
What could i do to get my account permanently banned? I’ve insulted mods, I’ve told trade chat i just bought gold (i actually did to try to get banned) I’ve gotten banned from these forums dozens of times…it seems Blizzard really wants me to stay.
I’ve been in your shoes OP. My advice, focus on something you’d rather be doing instead of focusing on quitting. That or just embrace it and play the darned game.
Be careful what you wish for. I usually have no problem deleting accounts, but deleting WoW accounts is a whole another thing on its own. You’ll feel that attachment & the game will “call” you back, except you won’t be able to return and you’ll hit yourself over it.
i am a big achievement hunter and if i delete my account, all my battle.net stuff will be erased from my Exophase account guess i need to be strong willed.
You could just open a ticket and request a complete deletion of your wow account, they can do it for you, they’ll try to talk you out of it, explain it’s permanent etc (like when you try to cancel a credit card or cable tv), but they can do it and once they do, your account is gone forever.
If you were to delete your account or have it banned permanently, it wouldn’t stop you from making a new account and playing cause you miss it.
You love this game which is why you keep coming back.
Only way you will quit is through self discipline, just say no and do something else. Exercise gets the mind off cravings for instance, eventually it will get easier.
First start by understanding that forum actions do not equal in game consequences. Getting suspended or banned from the forum does not mean you are removed from the game, so you can stop insulting mods. Even running afoul of chat won’t help, stating “I do cheating stuff” probably will just get your account silenced, and if you are reported Blizzard is going to investigate and if it finds no actual cheating it’s going to write off the report as trolling.
Self control here is key, because even if you get your account banned, that is usually on a license level only, nothing would stop you from creating a new license to start again.
Even if you get your Blizzard account deleted, nothing would stop you from creating a new email, and starting a new account that way either.
I hate to back this post, but
If you feel it has actually gone this far, finding a counselor might not be a bad idea, the biggest part about fixing an addiction issue is first acknowledging the issue exists, then understanding that you probably will need help setting a different course.
Dopamine is a heck of a chemical. Try addressing it by increasing the serotonin in your system which some studies have shown to inhibit dopamine production.
Increase your tryptophan intake (poultry, dairy, nuts and seeds, some red meat) and get more sunlight. Both help increase it. Or just take a supplement. It’s also been linked to release during selfless acts that make you feel good.
Serotonin is more of the “warm fuzzy” feeling you get when something makes you happy. Dopamine is the more “heck yes!” feeling you get when you’ve “scratched an itch,” so to speak.
