What have they done to this profession.
And I can’t find a guide that tells me what to do. They all say “Just Scour Through Scrap until you’re level 15.” I can’t even find that on my character.
Can anyone help me, please?

Scrap can be found on certain mobs randomly if you’re a TWW Engineer, basically similar to how Tailors can find Cloth, except the Scrap is only able to be used by you and cannot be traded, the scouring through scrap is how you come to learn recipes that aren’t on your trainer as well
They give you like 75 scrap for free, you can use that to get started, the rest comes as drops from humanoids and robots AFAIK
Ok that makes more sense.
Where?
Edit: I seen some Rusted Scrap on a vendor but when I click on it, it does nothing.
So there is a specialization that makes it so you get a chance of scrap when you make parts.
Start in inventing and then fill up parts, ingenious, scrapper. Inventing will get you most recipes. There is a great buff in ingenious at 15 points.
You can also get scrap from any expansions engineering parts.
You also get it from mining.
They’ll come eventually, I’m sitting on over 6800 right now, after making a bunch of parts that require them for the new bike.
How do I get inventing? It’s under unlearned.
I’m trying to figure out how to move past skill level 1.
If you haven’t done it yet, there should be a quest in the work orders building in Dornogal to just talk to a guy nearby and you get a choice of profession awards. Choose the engineering one and you’ll get ore and rusted scrap. Once you have rusted scrap and have learned engineering from the trainer, at the workbench click on scour through scrap, chose your scrap and watch it go. You’ll learn some basic components. Then, once you have learned dissasemble inventions, you can get more scrap from breaking down random prototypes you get or from making actual things. When you use the daily invent or the disassemble you learn hastily scribbled writings. Combine 15 of those and you’ll get a coherent writing, click that and you’ll get a choice of 3 things to learn.

I’d think you should have a few made recipes like bismuth bolts to get your first points from. You can only start doing what I was talking about at 25 pts.
Is your filter set to learned recipes?
Oh, you have to do the introduction.
Is there anything worth taking engi for?
I make a lot of gold with it.
Invent, until you have a piece to disassemble. Disassemble those until you have 15 pages, forget the name. Those will give a choice of recipe to learn. Rinse & repeat. Do patron orders for the skill up and goodies.
How? I have been looking all over the place of stuff that’s profitable with engineering and I haven’t found anything sensible.
I’m sticking to it mostly because I enjoy it and think it is fun, but I have no idea how to make any amount of gold with it in TWW. Or are you doing the expansions to sell those things?
Thank you, this is what I needed.
This is the first place I went and it didn’t tell me how to get “Scour for Scraps” which is why I came here.
Part of it is knowing how to work the auction house, knowing when to buy ore and for what price, mass crafting and knowing how to spend your points.
It’s hard to give up too much info without creating too much competition.
I just kill mobs, usually while doing world quests for gold. I have 1716 rusted scrap on my engineer, and I primarily gain profession skill by burning my Invent cooldown every 20 hours. My engineer is an alt, and I’m don’t care a whole lot about professions, but that’s been working for me. Your mileage might vary, of course.
Well, I’m starting to care a whole lot less. I was about 5 seconds from crashing out and dumping engineering.
I’ve been an engineer on my main for 20 years. I"m pretty sure it’s been the same thing this entire time where you start off making bolts. I have no idea why they would move away from that.
They did the same thing to alchemy, I’m just as baffled as you are.
Wormholes.
Ok, so, Engineering is actually one of the easier professions to level, IMO
The main thing with engineering, is that you have to go to the Whirring Fields, in Hallowfall, to farm “scrap” from the Golems there. You use the scrap to learn new recipes. You can almost think of it like “tinkering” with the scrap and figuring out how to make stuff. That would be the RP aspect of it, I guess
