I am not aware of any dictatorship that healer has in FFXIV.
As for pushing DPS, one of the reason for that is actually to avoid wiping in high end content with tight DPS check. However, pushing DPS doesn’t mean ignoring roles. On the contrary, you have to know your respective roles in order to maximize DPS. You can’t push DPS if the party wipes due to tanks/healers not tanking/healing properly as a dead party deals 0 damage, after all.
For people who are not enjoying WoW right now, FFXIV not being “close” to WoW might be a good thing.
How is being relegated to an island with three little zones “more content”? To me, this game focuses on so much RNG end game random bs now, that the core of the game lost meaning, content, has no engaging talent system, and things that were a part of the game and incorporated into it are now gated unlocks.
WoW is nowhere near the same as it used to be. In some respects, that’s not a bad thing. But in others, they’re moving farther away from the expansive world that gave us more choices as we progressed through it.
The long term playerbase doesn’t always focus on end game. They focus on the entire game. Newer players within the past couple of expansions are used to a different style of game that’s nothing but end game. Therein lies the problem. Because that’s not an MMO. There needs to be a better balance between the two to make the world more engaging and have more content and choices.
You fail to mention the gear you get is boring and raiders are neutered to preserve casual feelings… hope you like working 10 times harder in Savage to get gear 10 ilvl above normal.
Make sure you make those 4 bosses every 7 months worth it.
(And when i say boring i mean, 10 more mainstat upgrade boring. the gear is hot garbage.)
• From the very start, raiding and such required wow to be a full time job. Those who didn’t have that much spare time (the vast majority) never raided, or barely raided.
• Gear drops have always been random. No one was ever guaranteed a drop, and when it did drop you usually either had to roll for it, or it was allocated by your raid leader/loot council.
• You very seldom see people talk in PuGs, let alone abuse eachother. In a random BG, yes, it’s frequent. but it always has been there.
I have no idea what point you are trying to make, as if you had actually played wow in any early form you would know most of what you say is actually false.
I actually prefer for gears to be “boring” because they are meant to be replaceable. All new abilities and traits in FFXIV are added in the class/job system with every expansion that would likely stay with you unless there is job balance changes, and not on gears that you discard for the next gears.
And raid gears are still some of the best in every tier regardless of ilvl difference and they make it easier to do content.
You nailed the problem right on the head and I suspect you are correct. Bigger zones like outland and northrend cost more to make and not just in size but in grandeur as well. They have to make it so you actually see fully formed structures while flying. This more then anything else is also why we got delayed flying. So that the art team doesn’t have to worry about making all the structures straight away and can work on it later once all the other content is released.
If you like boring then yeah FFXIV is kind perfect, same patch cycle every expansion, no surprises and spells are removed often to keep it playable by controller.
Its like the perfect game for the elderly or people who don’t really want to play an mmo but a weird jrpg.
FFXIV is not boring to me, though. That’s why I use the word with quotation marks because I was simply quoting your use of the term.
And I’m not sure why you are referencing the elderly. Are you trying to insult old people or something?
As for keeping it playable on controller, I regularly use more abilities on my samurai in FFXIV than on my havoc demon hunter in WoW, so I’m not sure what you are talking about there either. Also, are you saying that WoW doesn’t remove spells? The reason why FFXIV remove spells (or maybe consolidate) is because every expansion so far it would add spells to every job. If it doesn’t remove/consolidate spells, it would not be a good gameplay experience, even on keyboard as there would just be more and more abilities to use.
Theyre just mad because they know that the more people that leave the result will be less resources for WOW development and their game play will suffer.
It is sad to see contagion go, but it wouldn’t have been all that good of an ability with the changes made and it would have made Ifrit replace Garuda completely after his buff. The new Contagion is definitely better and gives the SMN some real utility so now we at least have some real choice between pets.
For someone having tonnes of fun playing ffxiv you sure have time to cherry pick~
Personally the change to cleric stance was the beginning of the end, an example of a skill ceiling being sliced out for the benefit of the bottom but i suppose in your world since it wasn’t “removed” its fine eh?
Out of curiosity what sort of stuff do you get into on XIV? Got any ultimate done? Current Savage clear? Or are you one of many who’ve just rolled in and are still leveling? Trust me the leveling is alright, the first time around but need more than that for a game.
Thankyou all for looking at my post and your understanding.
For those that saw it as an opportunity to dissect my words in some quite nasty ways, thats fine. To me you are part of the problem that I discussed in my OP. Nevertheless, you can have your opinions. I have offered mine, and my direct observations of what I see happening outside of WoW.
I am not an advocate of Square Enix, or Final Fantasy XIV. Its probably got issues, but its offering many ex WoW players something that WoW does not. Thats food for thought.

I havent touched the game since 2015… I intend to start fresh and take my time. I will have 4 expansions to play in and oh yes… I will be 57 this year and intend to keep gaming till they carry me away.
Your slur on the elderly notwithstanding, age in gaming is irrelevant.
