This is so ludicrous I can’t figure out if you’re just lying or if you never played WoW before
You’re missing your fantasy worlds up. They’re is no such thing as Mordor in WoW.
Comparing social “score” to GearScore/RaiderIO for player suitability is like comparing a geiger counter to a pluviometer for measuring rainfall. They’re two completely different things.
Gearscore/RaiderIO are objective measurements based on various factors that can be obtained via the API. Social “score”, for lack of a better term, is a qualitative measurement. You could be the nicest, most helpful person on the server and universally adored by the entire player base… but you can still be a garbage player with zero understanding of your class/spec. Just the same as you could be the greatest {{spec}} {{class}} that ever lived. Your gear is all max titanforged with sockets and tertiary stats all gemmed and enchanted optimally with the absolute best Azerite traits which allows you to blow through Mythic +99 keys in seconds… but you could still be the biggest jerk that ever logged into the servers.
To this point in particular, I do grind and certainly did grind. I think what is killing me with BFA right now is that I can’t grind for stuff at my own pace.
I mean, I have Insane in the Membrane so obviously I have no issue with grinding. But what I liked was I could do it whenever I wanted, for how long I wanted and never fall behind. If I wanted to do 1 hour a day, I could miss a day and do 2 hours the next day.
This xpac I really feel punished for not logging in everyday. Want paragon rewards? You can only get so much rep a day so you fall behind for each day you don’t log in. Need commendation badges for the mounts/pets? Better do the WQs in the warfront zone, you only get 5 a day. Did you do your muythic+ this week, etc etc.
The fact that WoW is DEMANDING my time is really starting to hurt my desire to play it.
WoW is reaching the point where it is only for the burned out addicts and regular folks just will not belong. Other games have done this and the game stagnates while players just come in for their “fix” and log.
I am with you op. I tried FFXIV but it didnt keep my interest. Good luck to you!
You should consider an RP realm. Just because it’s far less toxic / elitist there. But then again, they don’t push Dungeons and Raids as much. Can’t say I agree with the gambling thing though… I’m also someone who gets sick at the sight of gambling machines. I’ve never once bought a lottery ticket, scratch off, nothing. I despise it. The only issues I’ve had at ilevel 390 is the chances of transmog drops. Some of them are <5%. There’s high ilevel gear that drops for just about every slot in every Raid and Dungeon. So you are bound to get one by chance. In fact, I think these chances of dropping are significantly more than previous expansions. I think many people can get to 400+ pretty easily with just running high level keys for a month or two.
Also I think you haven’t even experienced the worse of PUBs / PUGs. You can get gear basically solo to item level 385-390. When you try and enter Mythic+ you’ll get denied not because of your gear score but your io score. Anyway, just some thoughts.
Maybe you should work on not being confused then. The truth is you used to play the game and now you don’t play as much but want the game to act like it did when you played more. I’ll put it simply that this is user error. You are not playing the game right for the experience you want.
Some of the replies to the OP and others in this thread just make me cringe. Very toxic. This resembles the in game players to me. OP I understand and I agree.
lol
and some extra characters
What you forgot to mention is that “wow refugee” is said with complete derison in ffxiv.
That game really is just a typical square-enix console game with an mmo hastily tacked on. The majority of people that play it are jrpg fans exclusively, and consider mmo gamers as a disruptive element to how their neophyte selves feel a game like that shout be played.
Take for example the strange dictatorship healers have in that game and how everyone ignores all traditional roles to push as much dps even if it wipes the group.
That’s actually exactly my point. When you were forming a group you could decide to choose either the mediocre but kind player or the hotshot jerk. Non optimal players still had their place in the server ecosystem. Someone that was kind of dumb but that was nice and willing to stick it out for 6 hours could get into any non-cutting-edge content they needed.
WoW can be a great game if you dont visit the forums. Or group with people in game. And turn off general.
In other words, the game is great. The kind of people it now attracts, not so much. The sad part is the people making the game are in line with the toxic players beliefs.
I can’t like this twice so I’ll just quote and say I couldn’t agree more.
The statement that WoW hasn’t changed is false by any way of looking at it.
Oh, I agree It could be a great game again. For me it just evolves more and more from the sandbox into putting us on rails. We have to do this and have to do that. In order to do this we have to do this first. Sorry I am rambling. My point is the direction of the game is not going toward friends, family, or guilds. Its going toward individual achievements and E Sports. That might not be bad for modern players, but for those of us who loved this game from the beginning its like watching a family member die from cancer.
Don’t laugh at yourself. That’s not nice.
You’re right. It’s gotten easier and has more content.
Maybe I am just easy to please. I agree with you on the things you dislike. I prefer a sandbox. However, I am having fun playing. I spent the last 2 nights re-doing Shadow moon valley on a new toon because I did it before there were achievements. I am not an achievement hunter, I just want to check the box to show because I know I already did it. I also am learning / remembering a lot of lore I forgot.
In the end I still love the game and can find a place to play it. I hate that I am going to have to do a heroic to unlock my Kul Tirans, but I can get it done…
if they want that market share, it literally is.
So you were just making stuff up when you said WoW is the same and OP changed?
