So I played LOTR online recently again and it struck me that despite the awful graphic and the 1 to 1 copy of the events from the canon into the game there is infact ONE feature that totally should be advertised in WOW too. I am of course talking about the system where you select from which region your new character is hailing from. All 4 of the races can decide from which point of the world their adventure starts. And that is a great thing. Most races are not tied to a single zone(Apart from Orcs sadly) so I say it is very much realistic to implement this and give the RP community a bit of food here. Do you agree with me?
You can already choose which region your character comes from. It’s called using your imagination.
Rpers need to do that in their flag with additonal addons usually. This feature however could be provided by Blizzard instead.
They have. You are born of Delve. Raised in (insert starting area here).
Pretending every human is from Stormwind is very boring.
How do you know that every human isn’t from stormwind?
I don’t think they’ll do this, unfortunately.
You’re right, many races have many possible origins, but they choose the one, specifically, for everyone. Guuah here was born in Gadgetzan, hailing from Tanaris, but throughout the Undermine campaign he’s referred to a Bilgewater boi from Kezan. Same as every other gob.
It’s even more frustrating when you’re given dialogue choices to be like, “well i want to be part of a different cartel” and Gazlowe is like, “lol ur silly guuah don’t be dumb you ain’t leaving us ever”, he says with a sinister undertone.
(That last part is made up, but the rest is I believe goblin-specific dialogue.)
I think it’s just going to be one of those things I wish was a thing, but just won’t be. At least not for the foreseeable future.
With humans they kind of have a choice now but Stromgarde and Dalaran are off the table it seems. It makes the world feel much smaller when the devs determine it all at character creation already.
Why? The only thing it would change is a little tag hidden away in some nowhere place no one ever checks, and it would be much more restrictive than anything you could come up with yourself.
Right now your character can be from literally anywhere, and no one can tell you otherwise. Do you really think having a short list of options is an upgrade from literally all of them?
Right now Blizzard determines where we are from by dropping us out in the starting. By default all Orcs(not counting AU Mag’har) are either from Durotar or from the camps. And that is bad.
I always assumed that the starting area was never where my characters are born…’cept undead because raised, anyway they are more in a loot and plunder college/pre-school until they have their full complement of talents.
Why is it “bad”? …now?
Edit: as I am posing the question…I realize, yeah, more starting points wouldn’t be a bad thing.
Point is WOW has a better running engine then LOTR online. So making this new tool that they can be new characters from all places where that race is present in larger numbers is an awesome feature(possible).
Some are from Boralus.
Unless they’re going to do something significant to the TRP level, this sounds like a waste of time. RP’ers would continue to use the much more robust system.
Kul Tirans and Worgen are their own races. That is not the same thing.
They are a separate faction, but Worgen are humans that have been inflicted. Kul Tirans are also human, but very beefy.
Well yes but many zones on Azeroth have many races and I would like to have at least an illusion of choices. Taliesin said it before you ar enot just that race you are from a SPECIFIC place of that race and that is annoying.
Orc can hail from Durotar, Alteract Moutains (Frostwolves), Outland, or Draenor.
Humans Anywhere Eastern Kingdoms, Some a new settlement on Kalimdor, Northrend, Kult Tiras and even Outland.
Worgen from Gilneas, Darkwood and Northrend.
And so, we just add each race as originated from wherever they could have grown up. As such, no nightelves from Outland, the settlement in Blade’s Edge Mountains is not old enough. Any nightelf born there would still be too young but we are not far from there.
my mag’har is a shadowmoon from the AU clans, my orc hunter is a former thunderlord born on dreanor before it exploded. I hate that I have to use total RP 3 to make it work. It would be much easier if Blizzard provided a tool that let us decide this in the creation screen.
By that logic 90% of new characters made these days were born and raised on a boat heading for Exile’s Reach.
Corrupt a wish time! You get regions, but they each have an ability with one being clearly superior
