I’m confused on the type of weapon a Ret paladin should use. Slow vs Fast.
What I’m confused about is if a slow weapon has more damage and a fast weapon has less but the DPS on the fast weapon is more than the slow weapon. I always thought the more DPS on the weapon the better but am I wrong?
Broad answer: not really a consistent stat to measure weapon strength. It’s just telling you how much DPS you’re getting out of autoattacking with it which you can compare against other weapons.
I’m out of the know for ret paladins outside of them being bursty pvp machines, but abilities that state they do X plus weapon damage tend to enjoy slow weapons because they will use the high end damage of the weapon to calculate.
So if you have a 50DPS 2H 3.6 speed mace that has an end weapon damage of 200 versus a 51DPS 2H 2.5 speed mace that had an end weapon damage of 180 the 3.6 mace will hit for more despite the 2.5 speed mace having more DPS. This is why arms warriors always target slower weapons that have higher end damage, because otherwise our MS damage is doody.
Since ret paladins use seal of command/judgments to deal a lot of their damage that’s probably your deciding factor.
Seal of Command is a proc per minute spell, since it deals a % of weapon damage you want a slower weapon to get more out of it. It also means a higher chance to proc on each hit (since you swing less times in a minute). I forget the number but if your weapon is faster than like 3.0 you should use seal of righteousness for better dps.
Very basic question, I apologize, but so is 3 faster then 2 or the other way around? What is that number, strikes per minute, seconds per strike, or what?
