I hate tanking for pugs

Blah, sorry but i’m super annoyed with this dungeon I was just in.

You see, I was tanking for a random heroic, which I was doing for the goody bag they give me. So we all pop into the dungeon, the healer takes a minute to switch specs and restore his mana.

And what happens? The freaking DPS decide I was going to slow, while waiting for the healer, and decide to run around pulling everything.

They then of course die and start abusing me and the healer for not doing our jobs. I tried to kick them twice but both times it was shot down.

They continued being toxic in general while still running ahead of me pulling bosses and such, (ended up dying a few times) while continuing to hurl insults at me and calling me a bad tank and harassing the healer.

God i’m so annoyed right now. I really really hate tanking for pugs and I think that’s the last time I will ever tank a pug dungeon. No amount of goody bags will make up for the abuse I received.

Welcome to WOW are you new?

Seriously though, why do you think they have to bribe tanks to do random heroics in the first place?

I gave up tanking for any pugs long ago when my dk was doing timewalking in the Arcatraz. The opening room where the blood elf npcs are fighting the squiggly beasts and the two hunters use wing clip to root you. My group decides to move past the mob I’m tanking, attack the giant squiggly beast while I’m rooted and trying to kill the hunters, die and then I see “bad tank is bad” followed by “You have been removed from the group,” enjoy your 30 min debuff.

I feel for ya OP.

Since i am new to mythic dungeons, i started hosting learning groups, now in learning groups i clearly mention in the description that i am new and this is for people who want to learn the dungeon and are first timers

Still one healer started raging when we wiped on second boss that we are bunch of retards etc.

Made me /facepalm xD

I just leave. “go go go” followed by “stop pulling so much.” you want to tell me what to do? you can do the dungeon without me. it’s not like i need anything below Mythic 6 anyways. Have fun waiting for another tank.

Well, I hate pugging for tanks.

And pugging in general. Hassle to reward ratio isn’t good enough.

When it looks like a group like you just experienced, I’ve found that switching over to combat log rather than chat log works wonders (or if one person, just putting on ignore). Then just go about the run in a normal manner and ignore the rest. I find annoying people bother me less when I don’t see what they’re saying.

I just leave when that happens. Either go do something else irl or knock out some WQs. It’s not worth the 1k gold.

I tried to level a bear tank once I gave it up at 37 when a hunter messaged me to kill myself. I abhore how people treat tanks in this game. Like I will admit I was not a good tank When extra adds were pulled I would wanna vomit prefusely but like people treat new tanks like garbage and wonder where the tanks are.

Having an alt works wonders for this.
Leave the group and go level your alt or whatever else.
The queue to find another tank will be punishment enough for these people.

Ignoring the chat log must be why leveling dungeons were such a good experience for me.

Wait, a tank initiated a votekick, and it was shot down despite backing from the healer?

Something about this seems fishy. People see the tank do a votekick and just click yes… if they bother to read it at all.

I just ran my four 120s through 5 cata timewalks each.
DPS 1
Heals 1
Tank 2.
I did the DPS toon first just to refresh memory. I had nearly zero problems with the 20 runs.
1 wipe, due to healer not knowing the mechanics. At least 6 times DPS were running ahead.

It was only a problem once when we almost wiped a few times so I tried to vote to kick, but he had a 5 minute timer. At five minutes I voted but failed because I didn’t realize he was with the healer. He then started harassing me. I was hoping he would pull and die, but instead he would sit back and then after the pull say, “is it OK if I attack now Mr kicker?” - comments like that. We made it through fine with no wipes, but I was pissed off.

That was my worst of the 20 runs and it wasn’t that bad to be honest.

I have encountered this plenty of times and I think everybody has at least witnessed it. The fact that the vote kick kept getting shot down usually means it’s not a group willing to listen to reason or logic. I’d regard it as a hostile group and just park and do nothing until they either leave, fall in line, or vote kick you.

I love it! Which is ironic, because I have stories that make this one look like a picnic.
I’ve done dungeons where people complain about me in spanish the whole run, tell me to delete my character, or just generally spend more time talking about what I’m doing than actually DPSing - and its all in like hard dungeons, where you’d think people would be a little more mature.

Pugging is very flavorful imo, and I can say I learn a great deal from random people weekly.
If you only run with your friends, you never go outside your comfort zone, and you never see another perspective that might help shape yours.

So while I love pugging, I battle with it, thanks to an absolutely horrible mentality created by this RaiderIO score nonsense.

Ironically, the problems you are describing are the same as the ones I am, but in the opposite sense.

I would just heavily recommend not ever doing a queue-able dungeon again. They are all but pointless at this point, and it traps hostile players into a very bizarre mindset that could almost be called elitism, if you didn’t know it was proliferating in trivially easy content.

You will hate your life at times pugging Mythic+ dungeons, but the landscape is way more fair.
If you make a mistake, or have room for improvement, people often times are going to let you know, and often times in excessively rude ways.

But at least you are learning, and getting better. Getting better makes the mistakes happen less, and these situations eventually go away.

Meanwhile, no matter what happens in a queued dungeon you couldn’t possibly fail and people still act like clowns.

Odd community, at times.

When i tank i now ask 1 question…“healer you want it fast or slow?” if he/she says fast you best hang on to your undaroos if he/she says slow well then I will not pull the entire dungeon lol

Baddy may have logged in with one or two of the DPS. Other DPS may have agreed that the run was slow…

How did he know you tried to kick? it is anonymous even if the healer saw the vtk message it doesn’t say your name unless you signed it lol

REASON FOR KICK?
“Healer bad, signed Keena.”

I stopped tanking Pugs. it’s brutal. But if Blizzard brings back those big gold rewards (like Legion) I might be sucked back in.
