Once in a blue moon a mobile game will come around that is actually good. Most are just regurgitated slop looking to make a quick buck.
Well, I do like Warcraft Rumble, but Iām pretty sure Iām playing it wrong.
I havenāt spent anything on it.
And I mean that in any way.
I havenāt spent any money.
I havenāt spent any of the gold.
I havenāt spent any of the electric mana points or whatever.
I havenāt used the red buttons.
I havenāt used the grid.
I have spent the dark moon event currencies, and the current Cenarius Bucks or whatever they are.
And, actually, I think I spent 90g to buy the Harpies, and I upgraded the orc leader at the beginning, using those star point things.
I havenāt done anything else. I have several minis that have 3 stars, that I have not upgraded.
I have 40,000 gold right now. Most of my minis are around level 13, Hellscream is at 16 I think.
All I do is run the dailies, the blue quest events, and the occasional dungeon, mostly if prompted by the darkmoon fair. Same with the signets, I only do one of those if the DMF says it needs one.
I opened up zones until they went Heroic, and stopped.
But, I play it every day when sitting with the cat. Itās enteraining, challenging enough at times.
I donāt see much point in leveling more. It just seems like the game will simply get harder. So, why would I bother with that?
So, I donāt. I just slowly level minis.
I enjoy select genres - Asian RPGs, gachas from 2020 and on, TCGs, and Match-3ā¦ and within those genres, select games.
Though I usually prefer to install the Windows versions of those games, and for those that donāt have Iāll use Bluestacks or similar.
I vaguely remember playing one a few times when my nephew was young. He wanted me to play with him. I did not like it; however, I played it when he asked me. That was about ten years ago. I have no desire to play mobile games on my own.
I hate both mobile games and smartphones. The aggressive and manipulative microtransaction practices that have now crept into mainstream gaming had their origins in the mobile gaming world, and itās been a downward spiral ever since. What used to be an immersive, complete experience is now riddled with paywalls and cash grabs, all thanks to the mobile marketās influence.
As for phones themselves, the societal expectation that people should be available 24/7 is downright absurd. The idea that someone might be offended or upset just because they canāt reach you immediately is baffling to me. Iāll respond when I feel ready, not the moment you think I should. This constant pressure for instant communication is invasive, and I refuse to be tethered to that mindset.
I love my phone, and I love being able to browse the internet, or chat with people, anytime I want to, even if Iām not near a computer. That doesnāt mean Iām beholden to my phone and have to rush to answer messages. The only thing Iām on is Discord anyway.
That said, mobile games are garbage. Touch screens are not acceptable as an interface for games, beyond like, Solitaire.
Mobile gaming is fine. Not my particular cup of tea, but thereās a handful of them I play during my lunch break or sitting on the toilet. Mainly gacha games because Iāve a collector personality.
What I do hate are games that roadblock you completely unless you spend money in their gameās shop. And Iām talking about like they will literally halt all your progress - whether itās continuing a campaign mode or leveling your characters - you literally will NOT be able to essentially play the game any further unless you start buying stuff from the store.
Iām fine with F2P games having their little stores to sell you additional gems/energy/gold/whatever in-game resource to speed things up or additional costumes and stuff like thatā¦ but when itās like āThere are 10 stages to the campaign mode, but you can only play the first five stages for free, the rest youāll need to pay forā is the kind of crap that just makes me not want to even play the game.
