Maybe a couple but I remember some absolute nightmare keys to get that first and even second vault. Meanwhile TWW I think we started in 8s and were doing 10s after a day or so.
I was thinking this could be a way to get in the door, perhaps there is an alt raid or 2nd mythic raid out there. Thank you for the encouragement!
Your first mistake here is looking at a sim which does not include the actual fight, and in particular burst windows. For example Silken Court has moments where you are both getting cleave and one of the bosses taking a massive damage amp. Or Ovi has moments where you can do massive AOE while gaining funnel damage as arcane. Someone playing at a high level can get much more out of Spymasters’ than the sim shows.
If you want to sim for that you need to use custom APL’s and a custom footer. Doing the generic rotation on patchwork will not show the true benefit.
Some of my generic sims don’t even show it as a damage upgrade from what I have (a delve trinket), but it is.
I’m ok with any deterministic system, or at least a system with a deterministic fail-safe that isn’t just sockets.
I’m fine with boss drops being RNG, chests, etc. Contrary to what many assume, I don’t want full bis and I don’t feel entitled to get a specific piece of loot. But the vault is the big weekly reward, it needs improvement if people are walking away from it feeling like they didn’t get anything nice.
To me this gets back to the run-low-keys degeneracy that we had back in Shadowlands. Except now you can get it with delves, or LFR.
While you are technically correct, the feeling of getting 3-4 myth track slots (or more!) and not being able to use anything from that row feels very defeating, personally.
But I guess in theory one could run 8’s all day, and then buy a couple wow tokens to cover the material cost of crafting and get up to 636 ilvl. Do you really want to do that?
Also, the crafted trinkets are always really underpowered. But for rings and neck it works well.
So yes, I probably should have put “just about any” deterministic system
It might be a bit complicated, but I have always felt like they should have some sort of slot-targeting mechanism for it (i.e. weapon, trinket, head). I think you should be able to spend some kind of currency to increase chances for certain slots, or even to exclude certain slots from rolling.
And I don’t mean like increase your chance by 1%, I mean like increase your chance by like 500% and up for a certain slot, or reduce your chance for a certain slot by like 90%.
People keep thinking the vault is supposed to always give you an upgrade. It’s not supposed to give you guaranteed upgrades, it’s just there to be another roll of the RNG dice.
People keep telling me I need to delves for vault. I did a couple tier 8s and got some greys and one green helm. A few hundred gold. My vault was trinkets that I already have both better from pvp. I can’t get into a m+ group and heroics don’t allow me to gear for mythic. I’m…stuck.
I absolutely cannot bring myself to do delves to wait a week for a chance at something I can’t even use. It’s … just… Just no. I’ll pvp and hope they change it back so I can pug into decent enough gear to do mythics. Till then I’m not doing it. Feels bad.
Blizzard literally said they were lowering the drop rate in raid because they were adding the vault, back when shadowlands was launching. And for M+ people who aren’t in a mythic guild it is basically the only source of myth track gear.
How so you have a chance at getting a free piece of loot for zero, literally zero time investment.
You run mythic keys and get loot from those…… they could completely remove the vault but instead blizzard said hey if you play the game one a week we will reward you with a free piece of loot then they called it the vault.
When you have all heroic gear, then you can only get upgrades from the vault or mythic raid. If you don’t need anything from the dungeons, then you are only running them for vault. This is very common amongst players who “push”, meaning who run higher keys.
People push higher keys for io the gear doesn’t matter. If you can do a 12 key chances are you are raiding in a mythic guild anyway.
Doing 10 keys isn’t pushing. People only run 10s for a few reasons. Io, gilded crests, portals, or to fill vault. But at this point in time I have the filling it’s mainly to fill vault
If you fill your vault like I have on 4 toons that’s 32 - 10 keys a week. It is very rare that I take the tokens, but it does happen.
It isn’t really bonus loot at this point anymore and is more required loot. Getting a bad vault just sucks and puts you behind people who get good vaults. It’s one of the reasons PvP gear was removed since that community campaigned against the vault since it’s introduction.
The “bonus” should really just be a currency you can spend on gear. The only reason it isn’t this way is to keep players playing longer for their “bis”, which doesn’t work on me at least anymore. I probably would be more inclined to push keys, maximize my character and play longer if PvE gearing was more like PvP. In my dream scenario though PvP gear wouldn’t exist and PvE gear would have more options to just outright buy the gear I want.
The vault obviously works for the majority of people playing though cause I know I’m def in the minority. Getting BiS gear is all really for personal satisfaction nowadays imo since they purposely increase ilvl each season to the point the next season’s raidfinder gear has been outscaling mythic track stuff. That specifically leaves a sour taste in my mouth cause I could spend months grinding out the best of the best stuff through M+ if I wanted, but it feels totally pointless when I’m just replacing it all in a few months time with gear blizzard hands out like candy. The only time I actually like grinding, is the final season of an expansion, since I know I won’t be replacing that gear until like max level of the next expansion.
Instead I just log in take my free candy have a bit of fun for a few weeks then go back to grinding Street Fighter and playing single player games.
Ok, I thought you were saying that vaults were free.
I have been running 12’s. I haven’t timed any yet. Part of the problem is that no-one will accept me to a 12. I have only run my own 12 keys and literally every time the tank dies first or second pull. I spent a lot of time learning the dungeons and doing stuff like highlighting important kicks/stops in plater etc. Sure I can improve, but I’m trying my best.
As a dps it’s not quite as bad, but tanks are taking so much damage from white swings that they certainly can benefit from a higher level in 12’s. I won’t call 11’s push keys, they are probably the highest number that is not a push key, though.
people progress in different ways. For me, I have a limited time to play each week so I am spending a significant portion of my playtime doing homework keys, rather than pushing
