Literally there is no point for Priest to be in Melee range.
Some mobs you wsnt to be in melee range but yes overall it is pretty useless. I don’t even have it in my m+ build.
Then don’t use it? I don’t see how it could be an inconvenience to you. It’s not like you are wasting talent points on it or need it to optimize HPS.
It’s a useful ability in pvp for spinning nodes and revealing invisible/stealth players.
Not on my bars for any of the 3 specs, you only picked it up to access another talent in the tree.
Yeah, there are reasons to be in melee range.
For example, moleherders in DFC, if you’re not in melee range they’ll ignore tank and pelt you with rocks that can hit for like 70% of your HP.
But also there’s certain mechanics that are easier to dodge while being close (final boss of motherlode’s sweep) there’s mechanics where a random raid member gets picked for something and its positioning matters, so you stack. There’s bosses where you need to stack in a small area, etc, etc.
Rhapsody also makes it a very strong AoE heal, so it’s worth at least casting it at max stacks, even in raid.
All the more reason why our class talent tree needs a rework. Too many useless talents that have to he taken in order to branch out to good ones.
While they’re at it, why not throw Silence in there and have a shorter cooldown for shadow.
Holy Nova feels really meh for Oracle disc, even with Rhapsody it hits 5 targets for like 120k healing each - or like 800-900k healing total if used as an aoe heal. ( it’s atonement healing is equally meh ).
I kinda also just hated stopping what I was doing every 20s to press holy nova - every global feels important and adding in holy nova felt bleh to me. Plus worrying about the small range and moving to the best spot to optimally use it just felt bad for the small amt of healing it does.
As Oracle disc I just path through ProM/Focused Mending because it works with the Assured Safety talent ( Oracle shoots out ProM’s when we PW Shield so it beefs those up some and I can press Prom on the move if I have nothing else to press ).
Both talent paths are pretty meh at the end of the day tbh, none of them feeling great in m+ in any way for me. I wish Holy Nova w/ full Rhapsody did more, or ProM’s first heal felt as beefy as it did back in the day. It’s okay damage for pvp and probably delves/questing though.
As for being in melee, it’s situational, generally you usually don’t want to be in melee range as a priest but like others mentioned there are sometimes reasons to be closer to the boss/tank/adds.
( Ex: Being close enough to pop a quick fear as a stop can be useful, some racial abilities require being near the action to maximize their use, or sometimes specific mechanics are easier to avoid ( cones for example are easier to avoid/sidestep the closer you are to the enemy casting it. )
So, not many holy priests utilizing chastise, holy fire x2, holy nova, repeat for AOE with halo and apotheosis rolling?
Or saving it for casting on the run with a full stack in a raid environment?
Someone already mentioned how invaluable it is for un-stealthing rogues and defending flags in PvP.
I’ll keep my holy nova, thanks.
Holy Nova is just there because it’s always been there at this point. I think it was strong maybe once or twice, but it’s been useless and weak more often than not. At least it’s pretty.
Honestly, it’s pretty dang safe in PvE melee nowadays unless you’re standing with the tank or there’s too many stacked mechanics. But being real, the vast majority of content you can just hang out in melee with no worries, and it is often better for you when the mobs have aimed cones. Melee being more dangerous is a relic of old WoW times when frontals were not telegraphed well and could just randomly smack you.
The only detriment of melee classes is just DPS uptime, since there’s a number of mobs that do point blank AoEs that you have to move out of and back in.
Is it actually even worth using it?
-solo questing used extremely frequently
-adventure modes
-PvP
-dps boost to roll thru apoth
—can cast while moving even if not in melee so your chastise is reset
-extremely efficient 20 stack heal on soak if aoe cds are down
This is the most versatile spell we have.
Also I sit in melee whenever it’s safe to do so. Easier to heal stacked, easier to dodge cones, easier to stack poop on ground. Sit back for cleaves.
Exactly. It is a valued asset in pvp. It just sucks really bad in PVE
Only usable when you take Rhapsody, and only when you’re at/near 20 stacks.
Otherwise its something you only pull out for old content.
Seems like a lot of other priests don’t understand how good it actually is.
I wouldn’t say it’s insanely versatile, but it’s pretty worth putting points in Rhapsody and casting when you have the stacks for both healer specs. Even in raid, it’s a nice bonus of HPS.
Outside that, it’s mostly useful to reveal stealth.
And it’s not TERRIBLE AoE damage to spam, but I mean… Holy should always be prioritizing Holy Fire and Disc should be prioritizing bender and maximizing entropic uptime. So really that’s why you’d only hit it at max stacks.
I don’t like the sound effect. It sounds like a splash. I wish it made a more obnoxious, loud sound LOL… might feel more powerful. Come to think of it, most priest moves sound like feathers falling.
Good in PVP for flag protection duty and finding stealthies.
Good for questing and WQ and awakening the machine too.
None of the PVE meta builds take it, other than just to path through it while ignoring Rhapsody. 1 million total average healing per cast for Discipline w/Rhapsody is pretty bad and not really a significant hps gain in any way, nor is it a life saver even if you can somehow front load all the healing into one person. Looking at people’s logs in here confirms it hits like a wet chi burst noodle in raids. 2 renews can out heal a fully charged Rhapsody Holy Nova. Feels like the GCD’s every 20 seconds can be better used elsewhere for such low healing. Esp in raids. In m+ it doesn’t move health bars in any noticeable way, plus people need to be close enough for it to hit them, again that global is better spent on anything else probably.
Really? When I max Rhapsody it’s for a small damage bump, I hardly notice the healing it’s doing. Certainly not enough to meet a moderate heal check, which at two talent points, a keybind, and a 20 second effective CD, it ought to be doing.
I love the spell but it’s not that useful outside of Chastise reset on AoE currently.
Holy nova also doesn’t apply divine aegis. I thought it didn’t apply insurance either but I just got it to actually proc it on target dummies so I guess it does. It’s odd that it would proc insurance and not aegis.
For Disc maybe it should apply one atonement to one of the targets hit as well.
