There I said it! Yup…I know I’m likely in the minority; but I don’t like it.
Will fistweaving becoming a ‘requirement’ in order to succeed as a MW in healing in either PvP or PvE? Anybody know if Bliz is leaning towards or away from the direction of fistweaving for MW Monk healing?
I just want to know, cause if they are trying to make fistweaving the META for MW Monk healing then I need to look for another class now. I want no part of fistweaving.
Looking for those who maybe have played beta on MW monk? Or know more about it than myself?
Isn’t healing becoming MORE like fistweaving in Shadowlands in general?
IE: Monk will have crane. Druid will have heart of the wild + cat affinity. Paladin will have avenger + glimmer. Priest will have schism + disc wings. Shaman will get trashcanned by the blizz team.

unpopular opinion apparently but i HATE this constant push twords healers doing damage
i hated in mop when discs were opop in cms because they were an extra dps
i hated it in wod when hotw druid did more boss damage than 2 dps combined
i hated legion wotc monk
i’ve hated idiot feral aff rdruids healing destros sitting cat doing damage all game the last 2 seasons
and i hate what disc/hpal can do right now

i do not think it is that unpopular
i actually detest the concept of healers being some weird bootleg version of a 3rd dps
i also think healer skill cap and floor is infinitely lower bc of this kind of design
i think wod hpala was the best version of hpala ive played aside from the deathlobsta stuff but predenouncing rog mage goes and having kick and good thruput with no cds and more defensive positioning as opposed to some turbo tard dmg bot that spams 95k judgment and has infinite cds to cover the terrible positioning that ur in 24/7 bc ur monitor is off like ur favorite streamer crusader
dunno it is just whack playing healer imo

Not sure yours in an unpopular opinion, AutomaticJak has a video talking about it from a raiding point of view.
Disc has been an offensive healer since BC with possibly a break in WoD due to clarity of will. I don’t really like the legion redesign of disc, but I think it’s fine if disc is known for its single target damage.
Feral affinity is an interesting idea, but I think the conversion of intellect to attack power makes it a bit brainless. It would make more sense from an RPG standpoint if weapon swapping in pvp was still a thing (is it? haven’t checked) and you had to swap to an agi staff out of combat in order to make feral abilities hit harder.
Master shapeshifter is also boring. It’s a passive damage increase which makes feral aff amazing when incoming damage is relatively low (2s). My guess is that master shapeshifter is going away in SL, otherwise you could probably global people with HotW up/night fae covenant ability.
In my opinion though the best fix to healers spamming damage in arena is to nerf dps self-sustain.
It would be trickier to fix the issue in M+ since AoE CC still allows you to do damage and leave your dps at half health in a coordinated group.

I hate having to dps to heal too, I just want to click on frames and chill while healing not tabbing then click on frames

I don’t think healers should be doing significant damage, but I think what damage that healers can do, should be meaningful at least, but with the requirement that they actually have to risk/reward like hard cast and/or it cost resources. I don’t think the damage should be insane, it should just at least be noticeable the difference between a healer who isn’t actively pushing buttons and doing something and one who is.
Current disc iteration is awful, imo, doing insane dmg with casting 0 times. Most of which are just benefiting them in multiple ways like regenerating mana or just healing for more.
i think disc doing damage is good but other specs doing big damage is extremely dumb

i think there is a big difference in being an offensive healer and what we have now
for example being an offensive healer in an xpac like wrath is nothing like what being an offensive healer is now
disc in wrath didn’t stand around and do nothing but cast damaging spells to heal their team
they typically positioned aggressively for dispels and fears while they had ward death and trinket available and committed a singular holy fire to win the game
saying disc was some smite spamming spec since bc seems disingenuous or uninformed
no flame intended
edit: also the amount of damage the singular holy fire did was NOT massive, it was typically 1/10th of an enemy players hp
It’s partly design, but that design is a response to players shifting the meta that way. After all, it makes sense: if you can perform your role (healing) AND deal chip-damage, that is obviously superior to not. Bosses die faster, players die faster.
In our endless quest to optimize, of course we pushed healers to do their best to deal damage on top of their usual role. Blizzard sees us doing this, and assumes it’s a thing we do because it’s fun, and pushes Healer design in that direction - the same way Tanks have drifted towards active mitigation ever since Death Strike.
And many player do indeed find it fun. And since it’s possible to have your cake and eat it to, at the high end you see a preference for healers that are capable of dishing out DPS on the side. And since 90% of PUGs are meta-slaves who are convinced you need to follow world-first Mythic comps and 3k Arena comps in order to succeed in Mythic +4 dungeons and 1700 rating Arena matches, that meta trickles down.
In an effort to prevent the non-damaging Healers from getting pushed out by the meta, those healers now have to be buffed to deal damage.
And thus the pure-healer trods ever closer to extinction.
The only mechanical solution is to disallow healers from ever dealing damage, which would be far worse.
The alternative solution is to avoid high levels of content and either convince the greater playerbase that no, your +5 Freehold does not require a Vanish to time the key (an impossible goal) or make some friends who aren’t *ssholes.
I didn’t say anything like that. I said disc having good single target damage is fine compared to the other specs, as well as saying I didn’t like the legion rework.
yes and what I’m saying is u don’t need good single target damage to be considered an “offensive healer”
the 3rd dps healer play style is garbage and that is what my entire post is saying
Yes I also dislike the legion rework. I also wish things were like they were back in wrath, though I’m not sure about mana burn making a return. I’m guessing you’re talking about wrath 3s with the whole one holy fire thing. Disc/rogue in 2s definitely went all gas no brakes sometimes:

I don’t like current disc having what is essentially permanent vampiric embrace as a core mechanic of their class, and using penance offensively shouldn’t be the play if someone on your team is dying.
Edit: Also bonus points for baby ziqo in that video
Blizzard please don’t listen to these players. Actual MW players love fist weaving.
They’ll get trash canned after being brainless and broken S1*

Mw was the og deal damage to heal. Then it was taken away then given to disc then hpal
