Do you remember the Wrath-WoD era? It plays like that, but with Stormstrike having a chance to reset.
“unneeded complexity” if anything all the DPS specs need more complexity. Totally disagree. These changes are a massive leap in the right direction

I remember it being really bad at first. It only got really fun once we got the Foundry / Hellfire set bonuses.

Just think of your Maelstrom bar, but simplified and segmented into Combo Points (or your Paladin’s Holy Power).
Very simple build and spend mechanic.
Except generated based on random procs from auto attacks instead of builder abilities that you have some control over. And one spender will deplete the whole bar to make a single mild heal/damage ability instant cast.

Finally being freed from that garbage, poorly implemented mechanic that gimped us heavily more than benefited us is right up there on my list of “Things I wanted Blizz to fix about Enh.” Alongside Hex being instant cast at 5 stacks of Maelstrom Weapon, Ascendance aka the angry blow-dryer being removed for an actual dps cooldown not a terrible utility cooldown that via RNG can’t even do its one job well, and Stormstrike finally dealing nature damage.
You mean you all want to go back to having to use single target abilities before you can properly start AoE’ing, or having to waste three GCDs just to get your buffs that deal little to no damage going before you can dps ST?
An example for BFA Enh AoE is Rockbiter - Flametongue - Frostbrand - Cds - Crash Lightning/Sundering then Stormstrike spam.
An example of SL Enh AoE Vesper Totem - Cds - Crash Lightning/Sundering - dump maelstrom for Chain Lightning(optional) - Stormstrike spam.
I think some questions about the switch from maelstrom resource to maelstrom weapon are:
How will we be defensively now that we can’t spam healing surge since we aren’t getting back the defensive tools that historically complimented maelstrom weapon and were removed in legion in favor of instant cast healing surge spam?
Should maelstrom weapon stack to 10 so that there’s more control to the resource and so stacks aren’t wasted?
Should there be ways to more reliably generate maelstrom weapon stacks (e.g., rockbiter generates a stack, feral spirits generates stacks, etc.)
Should maelstorm weapon buff damage/healing by 10% per stack like it did in prior xpacs?
Are there any interactions that need to be revised now that we don’t have a resource bar (e.g., you can’t spam lava lash if you proc elemental spirit fire wolves because now it’s locked behind a long CD - should elemental spirits reduce the lava lash CD like hot hand does)?
With CD locked playstyle, will there be dead spots in the rotation?
My biggest complaint is they trying to weave lightening bolt back in the rotation. From what Ive seen so far anyway. I mean its a click whatever lights up it seems
I like this, I want to press lightning bolt in a meaningful way again I don’t mind if it’s just a proc. I want to feel like I’m slinging the elements. Not a warrior with elemental modifications
To answer your questions:
Wolves need to heal again as they do damage, Healing Surge should be tuned with the idea that we can no longer dump a maelstrom bar in desperation, and Earth Shield should be changed to a 1min absorb shield that increases out healing done to ourselves by 10% but no longer can be applied to others.
5 is the magic number imho if we had to wait for ten stacks that would be punishing in any scenario where we aren’t aoe’ing mobs with Crash Lightning.
Waste exists you can’t help that with an RNG system sometimes your melee swing procs Windfury Totem+Windfury and each hit procs Maelstrom weapon, but because you were at four stacks the other three stacks get wasted. The Maelstrom bar had massive amounts of wasted Maelstrom generation by design in BFA due to Stormstrike being free.
I agree in regards to both Rockbiter and Feral Spirits generating maelstrom stacks as that would give Rockbiter movement utility, and feral spirits more oomf when they are used by enabling you to dump LBs/CLs.
That could come back as legendary effect, but they could just balance the baseline damage of the ability rather than having such an interaction.
I don’t think that is needed, and would honestly make Elemental Spirits far stronger than the other two options when combined with Hot Hand.
CD locking would be a problem if not for Stormstrike’s cooldown being reset by Stormbringer, and the Hot Hand talent being turned into a 5% chance to proc instead of a PPM. With those two interactions we’d be far less likely to find ourselves without something to press though I won’t deny that in the early stages before we get back to the right amount of Haste that will be an issue, but not a major one. You could go even further and reduce rockbiter’s cd by 15% via boulderfist.
Some changes I would like to see that I didn’t mention:
i havent looked to much into ench in shadowlands but aslong as the needing to double buff every 20 sec is removed i will have my old main back i hated need to use the fire and frost enhances every 20 secs or my damage would fall it it really made it feel snail paced cause of that
Frostbrand is gone, we’re getting Frost Shock as a replacement, and Windfury+Flametongue are returning to buffs you reapply every hour, so no more downtime every 20secs to waste 2 GCD reapplying buffs that did little to no damage.
that is great wod enchance was what i enjoyed the most fire nova was my most fav skill
