I Hate Eclipses

I am really struggling with the idea of eclipses. I liked balance a lot in BFA except for the fact that we barely had any AOE. So all I really wanted was for Blizzard to fix Starfall and move on to another broken class. Now we have this stupid eclipse system that forces you to use non cleave ability Wrath to put you in the opposite eclipse so that you can use cleaving ability. Then even though you might still be doing trash or whatever and need to use Starfire… you are forced to go into an eclipse that buffs your single target ability…because you also cant be in the same eclipse twice in a row… even though that’s what you need at that moment… Is everyone else just… ok with this!!! Or am I just missing something???

Biggest thing to really think about, is that in AOE our biggest job is to keep starfall active and dots up. Filler to activate eclipses really affect the end result very little.

Wrath hits for decent and generates lots of AP. Focus it on the priority target. Starfire splashes it a decent chunk, but still drop it on the priority target. But always keep starfall up.

To put the damage profile in perspective, our fillers hit like a bumper car hitting you. Hurts, knocks you over, but ultimately less of an issue then the 18 wheeler carrying 20 tonnes of steel that starfall and Starsurge are

Thank you for responding!

Maybe its just in my head, but I feel like im casting the wrong abilities in the wrong scenario’s. Almost like if Blizzard removed the fact that Starfire cleaved at all, it would sit better with me. It would remove that feeling of not casting the spell I should be casting for that scenario. Because I wouldn’t have this feeling like I’m “missing out” on DPS when im casting Wrath for 15 secs straight during multiple mob trash pulls. Again, thank you for your responses. I really do want to enjoy playing Balance… I just need to find a way to see past certain things.

I understand, I truly do. I spent weeks on the PTR figuring it out.

I run the talent that allows you to cast while in starfall is active. Helps at times.

Some simple WA timers help as well.

The Splash from
Starfire will usually average out with the extra 2-3 wraths you can squeeze in.

A lot of times I find that I lose starfire casts due to the mob dying in the last sec of the cast

That actually helps… thinking about those extra wrath casts compensate for the cleave damage you lose. ok ok. cool way to think about it.

Glad I could help. Good hunting in Shadowlands!

I explained it in another thread but I’ll run it by here again:

What helped me deal with it was looking at the “wrong eclipse” as a power up for the correct eclipse.

So say you’re wanting to go into Lunar Eclipse so you can have all your good AoE. But you just ended your Lunar Eclipse on the last back.

  1. Load up your DoTs
2)Fire off your 2 Starfires, enter Solar Eclipse
  2. Benefit from Solstice
  3. Wrath until you’ve got AP for Starfall
  4. Wrath back to 90 AP
  5. If DoTs are good, enter Lunar Eclipse
  6. Refresh Starfall if needed, spend other AP on Starsurge to buff Starfire,
  7. Go ham.

And vice versa.

You’re not supposed to look at it as “I’m in the wrong eclipse / I’m not doing any damage”. Look at it instead as a ramp up to do killer damage. Regardless of what role you’re in or wanting to go into
