Since they dropped all the stupid, grind for borrowed power systems, having drake customization be the thing you have to farm for seems reasonable to me. And it’s pretty much guaranteed that later in the expansion they will unlock flying since they’ve literally done so in every other expansion. Just not in the first week. Also, maybe not complain about something you’ve admittedly never tried?

Everyone is different just because you don’t agree doesn’t not make them wrong.
And No I don’t hate it, I do prefer normal flying though, so even my opinion differs, I am not saying yours or the ops is bad though, just different.

Id rather it didnt. If you like riding by all means but dont force that on everyone else just because you personally like it.
Id rather both flying types co-exist with no restrictions or drawbacks so this stupid debate can end.

To be fair… wrath was a time when leveling actually took quite an amount of time. I know… I just did it… the amount of quests needed to level was astronomical compared to DF leveling. You still did most of the content on the ground. It wasn’t until storm peaks that you actually needed flying to get things done. The only expac where we really got flying right at the start (similar to DF) was Cata. And that’s because it was designed with flying in mind for everywhere.
Dragonflight is designed with dragon riding in mind. That means a lot of its world content and world building is built on the concept of the rules and restrictions of dragon riding. Every single reward that requires you to either efficiently dragon ride, or overcome by grinding out glyphs is instantly rendered null and moot the instant you add normal flying.
Unless you plan on having them add loads of AA mechanics… I’d say this is a happy medium until pathfinder comes out.
Edit: Oh and tbh… swapping between wrath and DF right now… I’d LOVE to have dragon riding in wrath… oh my god… being able to just brrrrrrr through those zones would be awesome.

I dunno I personally enjoy not having to grind reputation between 9 different things just to be able to fly around. Dragon Riding’s not awful once you get used to it.

It might be reasonable if 3/4 of the base ones weren’t beaten-with-a-stick ugly. You would think they could throw us a bone and at least give the base colors from the start, but nope. Grind for colors, grind for heads, grind for fins, grind for horns, grind for patterns, grind for the ONE armor set for each one.
Everyone just ends up using the same one because it’s the only one that looks halfway decent without requiring dozens of hours of rep grinding.
The last few months before DF I had been playing GW2. That has given me a good perspective I think on how limited DR flying is compared to the system they obviously copied it from in that game. It’s not even close, DR is objectively inferior in everything from controls, to customization, to limitations on hovering, mounting in mid-air, I could go on. So if i want to do the whole DR-style flying I can go do it in GW2 and enjoy it more.

I actually enjoy dragonriding, I call it falling with style… was really sad when I went into Azeroth and seen that we are not allowed to use our new mounts there. I thought we was going to have no more borrowed power? I am concerned we are going to spend all this time in improving our mounts only to have that go away.
They should 100% replace old flying with DR

Boggles my mind how ppl are willing to put up with Mythic+ Affixes but can’t handle a Dragon riding mini game to a point to make a thread about it.

you can unlock this with herbalism and mining by specializing in a certain tree of each. Takes a little time but you will be able to gather without leaving your mount.

To answer the title question: the closest dev interview on the subject implies a future patch, so I’d estimate 10.1 or (more likely), 10.2
