Yeah, you know. Some people on this forum are always saying: "People are cheating when they use Chatgpt “That’s some evil robot that’s gonna take over the world some day.” They add; “So like yeah. A person should be able to write a simple paragraph without resorting to using a program. Like really people are so lazy.”
Um…ok…but do they even realize that when they type into this forum’s chat window and utilize the spell correction program to fix misspelled words. They are using a program that assists them in writing text similar in utility of Chatgpt on a more modest degree.
Now I am not some English major. I do use the spell correct forum tool to help me write. Well it’s provided for free right. But what gets me is that it’s these same anti-Chatgpt haters that even using the forum chat-aid type out stuff that makes you wonder if the sentence was written by a drunken chimpanzee.
Even with spell correct, they type out things like:
“M+ sux bicuose tha tank no now nothing. tank stopid. and the heoler ist stoped to. They no play good game. M+ shoold be only fer smart peplo like me. I much elitess. Theey so stopid they shold no be alowed to play wow.”
What happened to education in the 21st century? Huh? So yeah. Before erroneously attacking another poster with “Bro, ya lame useng Chatgpt.”
I suggest you go back to school.
PS: I would love to see blizzard remove the spellcheck program in this forum just to see the gibberish people would write.
It’s just the level of involvement.
Easy way to put it is. Spellcheck can give you the correct word and even suggest the next one but it can’t write a sentence that makes sense by itself. ChatGPT takes it 5 steps further.
It’s not the technology itself but the level and way it’s used.
The other part is say you’re an artist and you make your livelihood off making art. Even if your art is marked as ‘not for AI’ use eventuality either the art style or an AI gen that doesn’t check for ‘do not use’ markings will generate work off it and eat into your creativity and livelihood.
Yet artists use tools that use ‘smart correction’ all the time without infringing on others.
(Zero skin in the game though, I work in a job that I doubt will be negatively impacted by AI).

My therapist told me that he helps people he works with write essays for college applications, as well as cover letters and other documents for resumes and job interviews. He told me (while giving up no personal details, just for the record) that he unfortunately sees younger people today submitting professional level documents with social media slang tossed in like it’s normal acceptable language rather than something you need to at times learn to code switch out of. Literacy rates are actually dropping in the US because of the effect politics is having on the access to education, and unfortunately never rose to much more around 70 percent at their peak. Things like ChatGPT aren’t helping, and ironically are championed by pro private sector tech bros.

I also pasted the OPs Text into a Chatgpt program and got this:
The argument raises a few interesting points about the use of tools like ChatGPT and spell correction programs in forums. Here’s my take:
Consistency in Standards: It highlights a valid concern about the double standards some users might have. If they criticize others for using AI tools like ChatGPT, but rely on spell check themselves, there’s an inconsistency in their argument.
Tool Utility: Both AI tools and spell check programs are designed to help users communicate more effectively. Using these tools doesn’t necessarily reflect laziness, but rather a smart use of available resources to improve clarity and quality.
Quality of Writing: The example given emphasizes that even with basic tools like spell check, some users still struggle with coherent communication. This suggests that the issue might not be the tools themselves, but rather the fundamental writing skills of the users.
Educational Value: There’s an implicit critique of the education system, questioning why some individuals seem unable to produce clear and correct sentences even with assistance. This could point to larger issues in how writing skills are taught and emphasized.
In conclusion, the argument makes a strong case for the beneficial use of tools like ChatGPT and spell correction while calling out the inconsistency in criticizing their use. It also underscores the importance of foundational writing skills regardless of the tools available.
Man, if there’s one thing I’ve learnt about AI, it’s that if it’s posted as if a 15 year old wrote a brief book report essay, it’s probably AI.
