I hardly ever talk in-game, and now I get why so many people have chat turned off

And somehow I just got an ingame warning, after logging in and doing exactly nothing, for my apparently foul language.

I don’t talk in game. I haven’t said anything in chat, and get a chat warning? Why? How?
The most talking I did was asking if anybody needed healing for the weekly timewalking quest, so how could I possibly be saying something that violates the rules?

And even worse, it doesn’t tell me what I said or when. So how am I supposed to never say nothing again if I don’t know what the nothing was?

It’s absurd. Why am I getting a warning for virtually never talking in-game…meanwhile half my server is literally just a bunch of pro-trolls who make a living off trolling people and being toxic and rude and nasty…and they get to keep going?
But the person who never talks get a write up?

Naw, now I see exactly why everybody turns off the chat. You literally can’t say anything or nothing all, without getting reported by somebody…and then getting warnings and threats of further actions against your account for not talking…

I turned off General and Trade chat years ago. I have no regrets.

I talk in chat all the time and in all my years never once got even a warning.

Me thinks you aren’t being entirely truthful.

Its toxic to suggest dishonesty when you can’t know the other side, and this has happened before with ppl abusing the report system and the overall poor quality of customer support at blizzard.

The report system seems to automatically give a warning depending on the number of ppl using the report system and streamers have demonstrated this time and time again.

It’s a warning, not a penalty on your account. Look at it like a heads up.

They were not reported, you were.

Based on history in CS, more often than not, you did actually say something that either violated CoC or you were spamming.

I’m not saying this is the case, not at all, doubtful CS could even tell you why you were reported because you have not received a penalty iirc they can only look it up if you were actioned, which you were not according to your post.

I haven’t run into issues either, but I can say that it’s possible to be falsely reported and still end up being actioned against.

Happened to by friend, he appealed it successfully.

Ah, the classic “I did nothing wrong” thread where no one will ever believe you.

As someone who used to moderate games, not wow, I can confidentially surmise they are being dishonest.
You do not get punished unless they have some kind of evidence.

How does one who doesn’t talk, get a chat violation? 2+2 =/= 5

The amount of people it takes for that to happen isn’t a small amount. Using streamers testing/abusing the system as an example inregards to this situation is just being dishonest.

So did you say anything or not? Because you started your post saying you never spoke at all, but this implies that you did. And if you did, what did you say exactly? If it wasn’t inappropriate then you should have no problem writing it here on the forum.

Simply put.

The only way they could report chat… is if you said something in chat…

They had to have something to click on in order to report it.

Was it justified? Who knows. Appeal it then.

I can absolutely see it happening, but I’m sure your friend didn’t run to the forums and do a rage post about a warning though.
Usually people that do this are guilty. And it usually comes out further in the thread if it goes long enough. More often than not, they claim innocence then are toxic to people calling them on their shenanigans.

I’ve said some things in chat that I am not proud of years ago.

I have not been banned for it (except once where I asked a GM to be banned cause I needed it, don’t ask) in 15 years of playing.

I always take threads like these with a huge grain of salt.

Man I love when that happens!

Its always funny too. Like weren’t you just trying to convince everyone you did nothing wrong?

Yeah, people who make these threads forget that one simple trick. If you really didn’t say anything it is impossible to report you for chat violations, lol.

Just clicking on a random person only gives you 3 options…

Or, more likely, people are rationally upset about seeing a warning when they barely ever talk, and when I do it’s almost exclusively to guild recruit or find a group.

The only thing I could have possibly done, and what I think happened, is I asked in chat if anybody wanted to join me in timewalking. I was healing so they would get faster queue times and get them all done in one go.

Rogue joins, nobody else. We queue, he instantly goes for a smoke…which of course meant that the queue also instantly popped.
I left. Zero desire to waste time waiting around for somebody to take a smoke break immediately after joining the queue when they know its going to be too fast for that.
No words were exchanged beyond the basic “sup” when they joined to acknowledge their existence

So, knowing the overly sensitive people on my server, they likely took exception to me leaving the group I made so they reported me.
Not the first time I have seen it happen, and it won’t be the last.

As somebody else pointed out, automatically assuming that somebody comes here to complain about “doing nothing wrong” while lying…thats just bad faith. It’s ignorant and strange to assume that, in a game where people have proven time and again that you can and will be reported and, often, punished for nothing?

To just assume that I am malignant and lying is just rude and disingenuous.

In the past, I have also said some things that for sure should have been at least suspension worthy, and nothing.

You are forgetting context. AKA who is even online. You can go online one hour and see…well, Trade chat being Trade…Then you can come back an hour later and get reported for trying to ask a basic question.

The forums should have been a red flag on that…
You get reported and suspended for simply disagreeing with the wrong person…

lol on the forums? Yeah, I know that one all too well.
You can literally get suspended for genuinely trying to help somebody, but they perceive it as some sort of attack just because they interpret a word or two slightly differently than you intended…

First time in GD?

While I don’t want to say no one…but pretty much no one who makes these posts are innocent.
They always conveniently never did anything wrong and get banned. Then rage at people later in the thread showing their true colors.

That doesn’t equate to a chat violation. Unless you were mass reported, which is very unlikely. You got flagged for something you said.

Wrong. You can do a ticket on the website and still do chat. You don’t need screenshots/chatlogs. You just need a Name Server timeframe. Not at all impossible to jump a few hoops to annoy someone.
