I had to tell my returning player friend that he couldn't play Lightforged yet

Yes I would for real, I thought I had answered your question, I literally lvl up a rogue and farm boxes because I wanted something for my main character.
So yeah I can say with confidence that I would lvl up a random character to farm and unlock the race that I actually want.

You Ion well, sir. No, you Ion very well!

farming a title isn’t the same thing, you can still use the title on any other chars

oh? so you’d spend ~ a month playing a human char not including lvling time to play as a ne, or a worgen, or anything else?

the insane title isn’t actually that hard
at any rate
how many people do you think would enjoy being forced to play a throw away char first? knowing full well that the toon will be gone eventually as it’s not what they wanted to play in the first place?

or to use the rep title you’re after

what would you think if they made you do the rep grind once for it…then reset the rep in order to actually start towards the insane?

if it was something that I want, yeah

it’s not about being hard, its that I literally had to lvl up a rogue for no other reason besides farming something for my main character and I spend a lot of time on the rogue just farming the boxes. it was literally a throw away character like you said.

Lots of people did just that in order to play DK and DH

you don’t require a rogue for the insane title, and titles aren’t the same thing, but since you’re stuck on it

get the title on your rogue, before you’re capable of grinding it out on your main
you’re good with that right? if we take away your title and make you grind it out on your main before you can use the title

except they didn’t
DK and DH only required having a character of sufficient level
and not even a max level (as is the case with allied races in their expac)
anyone could hop onto a DH near insantly, and a DK could be created within 2 days for a brand new account at launch by just having friends power level you

it’s not lvling 120 times to spend weeks waiting…if you’re not busy and can hit every WQ as it appears

a rogue is required, doesnt have to be you but a rogue is needed.

That doesn’t make sense because I would have to lvl up and grind the whole title twice, for the AR you only have to lvl up twice but there is no need to rep grind again, my example is way more close to reality.
Where I needed to lvl a alt to grind a rep…you know exactly the same thing you have to do for the AR

unless you were a new player

or you had to spend a big chink of time lvl up if you didn’t had anyone to carry you, and lots of people did just that

Hell that are people who are actually lvl up a horde character to unlock vulpera so them can play vulpera, they are literally leaving their ally toons behind, lvling up a throw away character just to unlock vulpera, when you want something you go get it

the time requirement would end up being the same, and if you unlock an allied race early in their life you HAVE to grind those reps out again for gear and recipes

irrelvent, YOU don’t need a rogue, and most of the time you can find the boxes easily enough

would you be ok with the title only being usable on one char after another had to grind it out?
or does that seem unfair? that you have to grind with one character to be able to do something on another

when legion came out it also came with a boost that allowed dh’s to be created

and you only had to lvl a little over half to get it, would you like to go try and farm rep @ lvl 60 for any of the current allied races?
it also never took that long, even without power leveling you could hit 58 in less than a week casually playing, you could even do it in vanilla
either way you weren’t waiting a month to play

both dh’s and dks could be done within a week even if you were slow and had to manually do everything, that’s not a huge time investment for a deletion, allied races are
and in that time you can’t do alot to benefit your char
raids? useless
dungeons? useless
bgs? technically honor is handy

using allied races to justify allied races is absurd
people also farm AP for 12+ hours a day when it’s early in the expansion, it doesn’t mean those players like the system or that it’s successful because “well they’re doing it”

it really wouldn’t, but yes even if took me a month to get the title I would spend on month farming boxes

I play in a low pop realm there was nobody selling them

Yes I would, when did insane titles were not account wide yet, when I start playing druid I wanted the tile for him and so I start to do it again but it was announce that it would become account wide so I stopped but to this day my druid is hated by the goblins because I was farming the blood sail rep

if you boost the character on the same realm, because you need lvl 70 in each realm you pretend to make a DH

absurd is you not understand that people will spend time to unlock stuff they want.

yes, because they have no choice if they want to do it
just like people will farm AP and gear sets to a degree that is flatout unhealthy if they want to stay competitive

it’s not about whether people WILL do it, it’s about why should they be forced into farming something they get no genuine benefit from?

the AR system is new, up until recently races and classes weren’t something you were forced to grind for weeks after buying the expansion to play
or in the case of some races they weren’t even IN the game until extremely late in the expacs life cycle

Defending it to a fault.

Their main argument is you shouldn’t have access to later and I did it you should to.

Grinding irrelevant content like legion now to unlock the very thing you play with in game the most (your character) is absurd and needs to go.

Rewarding you for sticking through Legion is awesome, and I salute the designers for doing that. However, the way they introduced these into the game inadvertently added the F2P 2000’s syndrome into a specific area of the game. The rep grinds were not meant as a way to get races. As others have stated, its a way to reward people who were already playing the game. But it creates a backlog for new players to get through in order to unlock playable races.

If you read the rest of her post, she does explain.

It is a stupid requirement for all players. It is just gating for time played.

lots of people unlocked AR they wont play just for the sake of unlocking it.

just accept that lots of people don’t have a problem to having to farm/grind to unlock stuff and there is even some that think this make the rewards even better because it makes it more unique.

I do believe that after BFA the AR requirements will be lessen or even removed and the reason that legion AR is still a thing is because they were actually introduced during BFA pre patch so they are BFA content, if they don’t change how AR are unlocked in the xpac I suggest you create another thread and you’ll probably see more people joining your cause

yeah we have this since wrath, like I said if its worst with AR its another debate but having to unlock characters is something that this game has for quiet some time

How have new players had a ‘backlog’ of things to do since wrath? The only thing I can think of is the level 55 requirement for starting a death knight…except, the death knight itself starts at 55, so you aren’t losing progress in that sense.

they were talking about being force to play a throw away character in order to unlock the one you wanna play, that’s exactly what you had to do in order to play a DK.

Leveling to 1-120 than grinding for a month or two, THAN starting over at level 20, is quite a bit different than leveling to 55, than leveling a DK from 55.

Additionally, the DKs you play as were already accomplished fighters before being risen from the dead, unlike the base class characters that are nobodies just starting out. If you wanted to get in the spirit of things, you could match the race/looks of your ‘throw away character’ and your DK. IE; your level 55 gnome warrior died, and was risen as a death knight.

It’s old to the game too. All the neat-o stuff we had access to in (echo) Current Content (echo) is gone now. Portals and mage tower? Gaping empty spaces. Whole questlines in Pandaria? New/returning players will never see them. Sure, it’s new to him. But as Blizzard has decreed it to be irrelevant old content, its “incomplete” without recourse.

“In a couple weeks at most”

Dude read his post ffs

you have a free 110 boost and can jump right in the rep grind which would probably take 2 to 3 weeks

It’s not that different from lvl a character back in wrath for a new player

that being said I agree that unlocking a AR is probably harder but that’s another topic, if we are talking about being force to play a character in order to unlock the one you wanna play we do have this since wrath

Saying that the DK was ez is subjective cuz for me the AR is ez, what its ez or worth its entirely on the person doing the work

This argument seems tautological. Why is nightborne an allied race and not a core race? Because it’s on the allied race screen instead? Well who put it there? Blizzard. Why is goblin a core race and not an allied race? Blizzard hadn’t thought of gating new races behind reputation yet? Given that it’s purely Blizzard’s choice to assign a race either to core or allied, and that all races added before Ion’s team got ahold of the game are “core” and all races added after Ion’s team got their mitts on the game have been “allied”, it seems…naive at best to internalize their choice as being integral to the race itself.
