this is only true for new players tho, when LFD was announced I already had then unlocked, tbh when every single AR was announced I had everything needed to unlock them ( minus stuff that would still be release) and this is true for the majority of players that I know.
While this is a real problem for a new player in a way the game already had the exactly same problem with DK/DH, its nothing new really
Case closed.
Earning something is one thing but new races from a rep grind and everything else? It really detracts from new players.
This isn’t grinding out Nighthold for the trinkets or gurthalak from deathwing back in the day. This is a playable race. Why have 8-10 races that people want to play locked behind getting to end game, grinding rep, questing zones, and then another arbitrary quest, and then leveling yet again to get the heritage armor.
I really hope they rethink the system or add a cash shop option for people to purchase them outright. Races are part of the core of the game and some people identify heavily with a character they play.
The system sucks for new players.
Why ? There is a lot of races for a new player to play - they are ALL new to them. It is rather silly of them to figure they should play ‘x’ when they can’t be bothered doing the extra to unlock them.
Ok, a cash shop for a game you have to pay a monthly fee for? That’s asinine. Level boosts are bad enough, but paying to get something you have to work for?
The irony is I wanted NightFallen a Horde AR, I ended up because Lightforged and Argus are tied together at the hip unlocking both Void Elves and the Light Forged Alliance races before my Horde race which tells me Alliance have ez-AR unlocks.
Look at it this way: If I want to go back to an old expansion to get a raid set because it looked cool, I can easily murder everything in the raid by outleveling and outgearing the raid (at least in most cases). These races have a major time commitment permanently assigned to them. I’ll probably want to roll up toons for all of these races eventually, but for that to happen I need access to them when BFA and Legion are long since past their prime. We’re going to have even more rep grinds next expansion, and the one after that.
And the races will always be relevant, where raid gear is transient. So of course many players will prioritize the races. Does that mean they want to grind rep solo all day? Of course not. We’re paying a sub to play in an MMORPG after all: We want to play group content like everyone else. That’s what makes the situation so vexing.
I can understand part of this being someone who had unlocked them but arguably the coolest races with the most customization are all allied races.
Look at all of the cool visuals, mounts, and racials they all have.
A new player starts, all they want to play is a mage. Okay, well let’s see what race I want to play. Oh nightbourne looks so cool! Oh, what’s this I have to unlock it at level 110, oh and I have to play through an old zone through it’s entirety and gain exhalted? Well, I guess if I have to.
One week in of casual play on a race they don’t want to play. Hitting level 60-80 dead spot…I’m so tired of looking at this character, I’ll try something else…but I really want that nightbourne. Keeps leveling and reaches 110-120. Starts into the rep grind and playing old content with zero relevant rewards as a grind and quits maybe even before that.
Was seen as opposite when they launched. Also, possible players returning for mechagnomes have the shaft as it takes boocoo time if you can’t no life mechagon to reach exhalted.
If a new player wants to play nightbourne the game is doing them a favor by preventing them from making it right away.
A new player wouldn’t even know about the allied races or how they appear because they don’t even show up on their character creation screen. The people who are complaining on behalf of ‘new’ players should stop because your arguments don’t make much sense.
your complain about something that didn’t happen yet for now those races a relevant everyone has to unlock them, why would a new player get them for free if there are people playing right now that doesn’t have them ?
So, you’re belittling people who want to unlock cool content. Seems pretty much like jealousy.
the difference is that the grind in classic is for your character, it has some tangible benefit
the AR system isn’t for that character, if it takes a month to grind to get the one you want grats…you just wasted a month playing a toon you’re going to delete or pay what is it? $30 to race change
there’s a vast difference in grinding for a character and grinding specifically to get rid of that char
A. i have all the races unlocked that i’ll play (horde, eventually i’ll race change when i finish my zandi’s rep catch up)
B. because it is a terrible system that shouldn’t have been implemented the way it is
as much as i adore the trust aspect of it it’s just…terrible
if a player decides to play BFA or shadowlands (or whatever the next expac is) based on being able to play say…a zandi or a jinyu (shut up, i’m still holding out hope) it means that in order to do what they want they have to
- lvl a character
- grind with that char for weeks or potentially months
- create a new char to level with
3b. pay $25 to play the char they want
this means that at minimum they take a month to get into the content, very…very likely 2+
this is on top of a system that is severely punishing towards falling behind
the AP system + rep grinds to play races is absurd time requirement and punishes anyone who wishes to play the race in that expac at all
seriously though, what if they decided you can’t play a night elf until you get a human to exalted with the kaldorei?
let’s pretend for a moment your chars were all deleted and that was the options you were given…human or orc until you grind rep to unlock the other races
what would your reaction be?
bear in mind you need exalted, and tabards are disabled
that’s a bad comparison because most people have already dungeon grinded all the core races reps already. now if we had to do an unlock? i’m sure people would be upset about that.
I’ve unlocked every race except fat humans and I don’t care about any of them. I don’t feel any sense of joy for unlocking Nightborne because it was ruined by a stupid reason for going Horde. I don’t feel any sense of joy over unlocking Void-Elves because, although they look cool, I just don’t feel any attachment to them. I never liked Draenai or dwarves… etc…
My point is- I did all of the work and I still don’t care about them. The only race I wanted went Horde and I just don’t like the Horde. I did boost one and bring it to 120 just to say that I did, but that’s all.
They should really bring the AR to BfA and get them out of Legion. The unlocks don’t belong in Legion.
the question is more in a hard reset situation
your account gets wiped and you have to redo it all
no tabards and the like just straight up grinding rep to exalted to be able to play whatever race you wish
did you change toon? cuz I wasnt reply to this one ( real question, just wanna know who I’m talking too )
there are many people here defending it
if you do it during BFA you have a 110 lvl boost, which already puts you on legion max lvl ready to do WQ to unlock those races, in the future blizz might remove the gate ( like they did with DK ) we dont know but you will at least have a 120 boost if the past xpac are an indication so you can either lvl a character do the rep grind and use your boost in the race you want or use the boost first and then lvl the race, either way you only have to really lvl up once.
I would 100% hate for my character to be deleted that’s dumb lol, but I have 0 problems with them add races or classes where I have to do stuff first before unlocking them, I lvl a rogue because I wanted the insane title and besides spending gold that was the only option, there are some races that if they add I would lvl them up in a heartbeat if needed.
If I want something I will punch thru other stuff to get it
you didn’t answer the question, if you HAD to rep grind on a new character to unlock night elves, or any other race
would you still be on board with it?
or is it that adding “allied” makes it fine to force people into 2+ week grinds (and that’s from boosters, the average player is not going to hit every world quest every single day)
Oh you poor thing. It must have been so painful to have to tell your friend he can’t play lightforged. Truly a heartbreaking story…
