I was talking to someone months ago about World of Warcraft and about female gamers and male gamers in general how some act when they run across a female gamer or how some are treated. I mentioned to him about how this woman on xbox 360 GTA5 online was trying to talk me into saving her from her broken life and her saying she would learn to love me etc.
He said he got into World of Warcraft last year in order to try to find a woman to date and he doesn’t really enjoy the game but he is using it as a dating site and he messages all the female characters he sees hoping they are actual female players who he could try to date. He even suggested I do the same which I never will.
But it has me curious, how many actually use WoW to try to find someone to date and how many actually message female characters in hopes they are really a female player? I am sure no one will answer correctly, but it just has me curious if anyone has done this before or knows of anyone who has for this exact reason of trying to date in WoW or finding someone to date in WoW?

Good luck on that , chances are pretty low , ive seen a lot of guildies in the past simp over a girl they met on wow , ive seen a lot get tricked into believing its a girl for months when it’s really a g.i.r.l.
Want to date ? Use a dating site , switch job often(ive met my wife 15years ago working) , split your groceries into a daily chore , etc .
Wouldnt trust wow for dating -.- i barely trust it to find pugs …

Wow very strange I would never do that it makes no sense to me it just doesn’t click in my brain. He is too scary cat to talk to a girl outside??? Lol.
But even though I think it is very very very very weird I can understand it because nowadays everybody is on the internet so I mean times change and things evolve but my brain is stuck old fashion way I guess.
Everything is on the internet nowadays so I understand but at the same time there is apps on the phone used only for dating so I don’t know why he just does not do that
Sending messages to random people is a good way to date! If you want your date to be a 50 year old, overweight man.

Specifically for dating and nothing else? Very few, I hope. It’s a stupid idea. Women in WoW are hounded as soon as they speak. I immediately dislike any male who hits me up in WoW.
Also few, I hope. This man just sounds really, really dumb. So many males play women in WoW. You’re more likely to find women playing orc women, troll women, worgen women, and nelf men lol.
I’d guess 90% of sexy belf women are males.

I don’t believe him, personally. That is not the intention nor the purpose of this game. In all my years I’ve had maybe a handful of thirsty whispers from people drooling on my female toon, imagine their surprise when I tell them I’m a guy.
Then they go complain on the forums that “people who play girl characters who aren’t girls are weird.” It’s only weird if you make it weird. 99% or more of us are content with our RL social lives and WoW is just something we play to have fun. I don’t even find it particularly helpful at sparking friendships let alone a relationship. I guess I’m one of those people who doesn’t trust internet randos though.
OP’s friend sounds like that “special” family member who keeps losing all his money to “nice women he met on the internet.” It’s honestly sad when that stuff happens, but people will catfish and they will do it to people who are socially/emotionally at their lowest point. It really is despicable behavior.
Watch yourself on the internet, I had a friend who lost literally everything she owned moving to a new state to be with “internet friends” who took all her stuff and left her on the street. So maybe that colors my opinion of that.
I never looked in a game to find a girlfriend, but all 3 f my wives found their new husbands in MMORPGs.
Back before Tinder or whatever, being a girl in a game like WoW meant you had you pick of the men in the game. They all chased you.
My last wife chased me in game till I agreed to meet her. Yeah don’t date those people…

I think my friend’s ex-girlfriend left him for someone she played a phone game with. Could be wrong but I know she was talking to mad dudes that way, so it is a thing.

LOL my first wife left me with 2 kids after 10 years. Complained she missed her 20s being married and a mom. And she was not the kind to do that before. Massive attention can change people (or more aptly show who they really are)

I can’t walk the streets of Boralus on my Warlock without getting all these whispers from creeps. They quickly turn away when I tell them the hard truth or go ballistic about how gay I am for playing a hot chick. I rarely get this problem on Horde side, and its way more crowded.
-On my Human Warlock circa 2007-
Rando: You’re hot.
Me: Ever see one of us that wasn’t? We all look the same, ffs.

That guy is something else. I wish him the best, but whispering someone assuming that their character mirrors their real life self in any way is beyond absurd, and that includes sex. Assuming a female character is played by a woman is no less silly than assuming that a tauren character is played by a real life tauren. Aside from all that, I don’t think anybody really wants these kinds of messages showing up in their chatboxes uninvited.
It’s certainly not impossible to find a significant other through MMORPGs, but it’s not really something you can look for. It just happens.
