I had chosen to be a healer

Dude, just do damage.

I have a hard time believing these aren’t just to cause fights. I mean I get that purists exist… But to be so darn stubborn…

He then picked Shalamayne back up and led the charge against the Horde… because like healers he heals when needed and damages when able.

Yeah, cool cool, it is.

Now, just convince Blizzard of this.

Prot paladin/BM say hello.

Reality is, you can time a +20 and down mythic bosses without doing any dps as a healer.

Given those realms is where gear drop max the current system is fine. If you don’t want to DPS, then don’t. But be prepared for the ramifications for being unwilling to do so.

But I know, as a multi-tier tank, that there are often windows of 10-20 seconds where no healing is needed. What do you do in those windows? Just stand there?

This is me. I like high healing intensity and I like having to be healing or dispelling all the time. It’s actually why I don’t mind the recent player stam/mob damage change. But with how the game is right now, there’s plenty of opportunity to at least throw on some DoTs, send in some Holy Fires, and launch a Star.

In a race against the clock, as long as you can keep everyone alive, even 10k dps is more than 0.

You need to heal less the faster the mob dies. While not your main role, every little bit helps.

The standard go-to Resto Shaman M+ build takes acid rain, literally drop healing rain and you’ll do enough damage that nobody will think twice.

If that’s still doing too much for you, then this game may not be for you

There are certain dots in the game right now that are ticking two and then player is dead. Yes, mechanics need to be followed in this case - but it is a new mythic go around, and people are still learning.

You sure as hell are not going to find any decent healer tryna dps during this time, because it makes the mobs die faster.

Y’all hear me? Stop pushing this damned nonsense. Blizzard can’t figure out where to find their behinds with two hands, when it is a brightly lit day - don’t be confusing them. It’s just going to end in trouble.

Every role has some overlap with the other roles in a group.
Tanks heal themselves mostly and dps while controlling the mobs. DPS obviously do damage but they also need to minimize the need for the healer to worry about them. Healers mostly heal, but not every mob requires healing to be done. So the healer should dps when they don’t need to heal.

Also, never did I say a healer has to dps. I said every little bit of dps helps. Also the content matters. The harder the content the greater the dps demand is. So every bit of damage helps. And if mobs are dying and they leave a dot, we’ll guess what healer time to use your healers.

Again though DPS have a responsibility to minimize the demand on the healer. If we aren’t doing our part then of course the healer isn’t going to be able to dps. That’s not the healers fault, it’s the dps because we think green swirlies on the ground give us a haste buff.

Guess as a Prot Paladin ill never use Freedom on my Ally, or BoP, or Spellwarding, Or Sac, Or WoG, Never cleanse toxins.

Or maybe I will use the utility that my Class and Spec has to help thr group go further. Yea that sounds like the better idea.

DPS and Tanks don’t ā€œJust do their rollā€ all specs have cross roll utility and you are a worse player for not utilizing them when they are needed.

Do harder content.

If they do that then they suck. This argument never holds water because it’s false.

Basically this… You can get very high into keys by just healing… I’d say that using other utility (interrupts/stuns/knockbacks) are more important than dps for healers. If you want to get into the top groups though and be the best you can be… then yeah you gotta dps.

The people complaining about dpsing in keys, are like…never doing the keys where healers need to dps in keys.

I have never actually seen anyone reprimand a healer for not doing DPS in a M+ though so I never understand where this ā€œrequirementā€ idea comes from. Does this actually come up in other peoples keys?

It’s like me saying I just want to DPS. Forget any self-heals, misdirects, interrupts, etc. I just want to DPS and not do anything else.

My healers DPS when they can just because I don’t like sitting there with my thumb up my…nose…if no one needs healing. I would also interrupt (if I had one).

But if the OP only wants to heal, fine. Heal. Keep everyone alive, and if they don’t like what you’re doing, too bad.

This is such a tired whine by now, I really wish it would just stop. When I play my healers, I heal and if no one needs healing I try to kill stuff. When I play my DPS toons, the healers I get grouped with do the same. In the hundreds of M+ dungeons I’ve run in DF, I’ve only seen ONE healer that did zero DPS and it was in a low key. ONE! So in my experience, this attitude is NOT the norm.

This more inaccurate the higher the key level, a dps like locks and mages are regularly dispelling and decursing.

I’m playing Devastation a lot lately and despite that I spam heals all the time to help out my healer. I don’t HAVE to heal, I’m not being forced. It’s just nice to have that option a bit on the side if it’s needed.
