Words from a hunter who spent the whole dungeon at max range, even when I (evoker heals) had to be near the tank to cleanse. You’re right, you didn’t get any of that sweet sweet dream breath that would have helped get you through the dots. And if I’d been on any of my other healers, you also would have missed out on some heals that require some level of proximity.
Do evokers generally say something at the beginning of a pug group to encourage people to reduce their spread? Do you make a macro? What do you say?
(yes I was using echo and living flame but I was having to chase him down)
Mostly I just call out “move in” into chat when I notice people being too far away. I also like to Rescue them back to a better spot until they get the point.
Hell, I had to yell at a Hunter on my Priest today because they were so far away I wasn’t getting Radiance coverage on the whole group.
If a DPS is out of range or LOS, that’s on them. They don’t get heals. If the tank is out of range or LOS, that’s on me, I need to move so I can heal them as needed. This is the only way to survive the PUG life.
Yes I would just make a macro and post it at the start of every key.
TBH this is not a problem unique to evokers, no matter what healer is in your group, it’s better for ranged to be within 10-15 yards of the tank for AOE heals.
The reason they don’t is a legacy of older dungeons/raids where a lot of mechanics could be outranged.
Yeah, it’s one of those things where there is a certain comfort to being at range and isolated, where you can move in any direction you want for any mechanic and you don’t have to interfere with anyone else, and their mechanics aren’t interfering with you…but in the M+ world where there is only one healer it just doesn’t cut it and often leads to death.
It’s more than that. In previous expansions, if you stayed at 40 yards range, you could literally backpedal 2 steps and outrange most mechanics. Classes like MM hunter which had increased range as part of their mastery basically took no AOE damage.
They fixed this years ago but some people are yet to adjust to the new dichotomy where it’s usually better to be in melee range or close to it.
This is all it comes down to, really. Other healers have enough trouble dealing with this crap, and pres has to be a special case because…its unique and different? Lol.
Obviously dps need to not stray too far, but im still waiting for anyone, include blizz themselves, to justify this drawback that has no benefits to counter it.
Exacerbated by the fact that range should be an advantage for those classes. But every mob and boss has infinite range omni-present group damage so Hunters get smacked even at 50 yards. Blizzard’s fault for playing favorites with which class niches are strong and which are useless.
