Earlier this season I set out to try to get my first toon to 3K this expansion. I love playing alts but normally I get between 2700-2800. But this season I set out to try to get as many characters to 3K as I could and tbh it wasn’t as hard as I expected. Some classes were harder than others but getting aotc, 3k IO and all 7 portals on all 7 toons is a nice achievement. I did this only playing a few hours a day. A lot less than most of my friends. I took a screenshot of my RIO Addon, it only shows my top 5 toons and won’t resize. AMA!!!
FAQ
How did I do the gearing?
Once we got on our way throughout the season probably by around week 8 I was able to gear up characters extremely fast. The goal is to get a character to ilevel 450 with four piece as quickly as possible. In order to do this you simply want to do the entire campaign spend your whelping crests on the 447 gear and spend your Sparks on creating 463 gear. Hopefully between weekly quests LFR and buying stuff off the auction house you hopefully can get your four piece relatively quickly. Once you’re 450 you can jump straight into an 18 or 19 I was able to tank even a 420at the 450 ilevel without much difficulty. This usually involves running a friend or guildies key. Ideally you want a 19 so you end up with an 18 and you can push from there. Once you run every dungeon at an 18 or 19 you should end up just shy of 2K depending on if you 2/3 chest at any of those or not. Make sure you jump into normal raid and if you’re lucky heroic raid. By the time Vault comes around the first week you should be sitting out between 465 and 470 and you can usually end week to around 480.
Did I skip Gearing?
Yes, I jumped straight to hero and myth track gear. I never touched a key below an 18, and my wyrms crests came from doing heroic raid. I did occasionally downgrade aspect crests but usually I just need 2 heroic clears and that’s enough wyrms crests for the few misc pieces that needed it.
What classes/specs did I play?
I played a Paladin (90% prot 10% ret/holy) Shaman (90% ele 10% enh), Warlock (90% demo 10% destro/aff), Rogue (75% Sin 25% combat/sub), Monk (60% brew 40 MWer), Priest (90% shadow 10% disc) DK (60% Blood 40% Frost)
What class did I like the most?
Priest but funny enough I quit her early on. Shadow felt horrible, way undertuned. I picked shadow back up recently and I love it. Disc is also a lot of fun too!
What class did I like the least?
Rogue, I love Sin but honestly. I’m really bad at rogue, I got HARD carried on this toon mostly by pugs. I am AWFUL at playing combat for some reason
Favorite role
Ranged DPS, Ele shaman is super mobile, lock is super tanky and spriest is just a lot of fun
Least favorite role
Melee, but as ret and frost so I rarely died, as a rogue tho I was dead a lot sadly.
My best toon
Ele shaman by far. Most of parses are in the high purple and I was always able to compete even with my friends who are 3200-3300 despite ele being kind of dog water
Worst toon
Rogue, as mentioned I was an awful rogue.
How many hours a day do I play?
Recently very few. At the start I played a lot. I was mythic raiding early on. But I would say on average across the season 3 hours a day 5 days a week
How did you do so much so quickly?
I am extremely efficient. If I’m in-game I am running something. I have friend groups where we can plow through 5-6 20s in 2 hours. We’d do an alt Saturday and do 20-25 keys in an 6-8 hour period. Mostly for vault and small io gains.
So did I do everything with friends?
No, pushing keys happened more with pugs. I did more vault keys with friends.
Did I raid?
Yes and no. I got some mythic prog on a few toons. I mostly did the raid to get wyrm crests and trinkets. So I wouldn’t raid on every room every week, just ones that needed it.
Why didn’t I do all 13 classes?
Well from shadowlands I only really played 5, the rogue and priest are new to me. And sometimes I am just not able to play a spec or class well. I refuse to use Hekili and feel if it’s not meant to be so be it. Also I got burned out, I also play other games with other friends and February I got very busy IRL with a few nonprofits I sit on the board for.
Do you stream?
Not really, just vault.openings and random stuff
Am I a kid living in my parents basement?
Well my dad’s basement is quite small but no, I’m 33, have player since age 14. I have a full time job working at a tech start up and also have a very active social life that takes many evenings and weekends from me.
Am I married?
Yes, my partner is also a gamer but players different games. We work opposite shifts which actually benefits me tbh.
