I don’t know when, or even if we’ll KILL him on Castle Nathria (He may flee or something), but i got this feeling of Denathrius betraying the Jailer and Sylvanas to empower himself to do something with Shadowlands/Multiverse with that tons of Anima that is being stored in the Maw.
I don’t know, but he’s a cunning, manipulative, egocentric and he doesn’t seem the tipe who’s like be taking orders from others, even from the Jailer. I feel he’s going to flip the tables and betray him.
He’s also made the Dreadlords, who’s all around the cosmological realms gathering information for him.
I definitely get a double betrayal vibe about him. If this was a different story (one where we weren’t supposed to be involved and written by writers specializing in this sort of thing) I’d be expecting, what is it called? 52 Xanatos Pick-Up where all the betrayals and back stabs just erupt as you get towards the climax until you’re not sure what level of shell game you’re on, between Sylvie and Denathrius.
Pretty sure everyone working with the Jailor is planning to betray him at some point. That’s kinda inevitable when your roster of allies consists entirely of obvious villain archetypes.
It took Denathrius and the other (eternal ones?) to lock him away. If Denathrius planned to betray him it would take a lot more power than he has on his own, especially since he sent the Shadowlands’ anima to the Jailer and made him even stronger.
That’s what Denathrius says at the end of Revendreth. That “death and those that shaped its victory” will be all that’s left.
Denathrius is just so cool I want him to do something like that, out 23d chess the jailer and especially Syl cause he’s been around forever.
Also did anyone get the feeling that Denathrius was genuinely upset with Renathal and was treating him like a very disappointed parent would a child? “For centuries, you tortured arrogant souls. But instead of learning from them, you became one. You just. . . Needed. . . To obey.” And “Remember this lesson.” I mean if he truly wanted him dead he had the perfect opportunity to kill him, buuut could be a case of villains gotta monologue.
Indeed, I found odd that he didn’t finish Renethal off. Sure Denathrius is arrogant but he’s not stupid, he saw how much trouble they caused. Of course it didn’t change the outcome of his plans in the end but it’s not far fetched to someone as smart as him to see the problems it could cause to leave Renethal alive.
Anyhow, ASSUMING Denathrius has a scheme beneath schemes (which is logical considering he’s the creator of Dreadlords), what would he gain from helping the jailer to then betray the f* outta him afterwards? I wouldn’t say power, control maybe? But control over what? The Shadowlands and then the other realms?
Idk just spewing ideas out.
I could be massively misremembering Symphony of the Night, but I figure it’s just Blizzard’s way of trying to do a Dracula/Alucard dynamic where Denathrius clearly despises what Renethal is doing, but still sees him as family and would rather hold out hope that his “wayward” son would join him.
I’d say that a character like Denathrius would be wasted just going out in the first raid, but then I look at Magrave Krexus and realize that Blizzard just might have made all these new characters to kill off in standard Blizzard format.
You know, I was thinking, what if he wasn’t the creator of the dreadlords, but the one to be under the influence of them, and just gives the illusion he is in control, gaining all the resources he’d need. Otherwise, yeah, he’s just serving the Jailer in the end.
There is nothing inherently deceptive about death, in fact it’s probably the most honest of the cosmic powers. Death comes for everyone someday, it doesn’t lie and say it won’t.
There’s some solid hints that Denathrius created the Dreadlords tho, a book in revendreth, how a specific character talks to him… I mean dude theres a lot of theorycrafting out there I’m not gonna write a whole essay abt it cmon D:
Yup, I felt like he wasn’t angry, but frustrated. Denathrius isn’t merciful by any means, had Renethal really pissed him off or done some wonky shenanigan he surely would kill him.
Unless there’s more to it. Idk man, I’m enjoying the story thus far (except Krexus holy catzo blizzard WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT, please resurrect him somehow idk man) and contrary to BFA where I was ‘sigh what bs did they come up with now’ I’m honestly eager to learn more
Oh, I know that. But that could just be a red herring or just misinformation. Having a book like that would be evidence Denathrius could use to say he was in control, not the other way around.
I mostly question the true loyalties because there is only so much you can do with the Shadowlands before the expansion is over, and I doubt Denathrius will be explored much more even if he survives.
If he dies, I feel like would only convolute the lore, trying paint him as overly important to Warcraft and the true source of Dreadlords, seeing how involved in the story they have been.
I also wonder why the guy in charge of repenting and siphoning anima for the Shadowlands would have this extensive spy network. Sounds like something the House of Eyes would be in charge of, or the ‘Spy Realm.’
That’s an interesting point! I feel like the House of Eyes was the Shadowlands’ spy/black ops “official” group, and the Dreadlords were kept as under the rug as possible, acting as secret agents from Denathrius.
