I find cross-factionism is showing my true bias, anyone else?

There we go

If they got rid of factions they would have the rename the game. It would just be an arpg. Factions are what made this game possible in the first place this is actually sad to see people thinking like this at all about this game. If you wanna just kill stuff there are a boatload of games to do that in. This “omg let’s all hold hands bs is just that…bs.”

No offense but the carebear attitude infecting pretty much every aspect of life is getting super old. This is a videogame that was based on the most vile and awful combat that could be imagined…the theme was gritty, dark, violent…it was about holding up the heads of your enemies to claim victory not out picking freaking plants with your enemy running around right next to you and you couldn’t even attack them. It’s sad. Bring back the damn war already.

I understand how Varok Saurfang feels after been in so many battles , especially against the Alliance players for almost 20 years. Today , should i kiss or fight against Alliance players ?

Remember when in alterac valley you could loot Darkspear Troll Mojo, Dwarf Spines, Forsaken Hearts, Human Bone Chips, Orc Teeth, etc.?

My dude. Medivh told us to get our act together and stop squabbling over bits of land or the world is going to end. This was over 20 years ago. It makes sense that most people continue to drown in blind nationalism, because that’s what people in reality do. They are more focused on red versus blue than the bigger picture.

Anyway. Stop pretending that the game being called “Warcraft” means there have to be two factions when the lore that predates World of Warcraft was already indicating that we need to work together.

Obviously he was wrong, and we just reunited all the dragons for funsies

The only lore I am familiar with is the warcraft series. Which was most certainly not faction friendly. If there is lore before that…I missed it. I don’t read all the books or any of that stuff. Just play the games. I personally just hate the dumbing down of the war we could be having with each other for the sake of the game. It’s turned into a sort of one thing to do type of game. Just fight the environment. It didn’t use to be like this. Nothing wrong with being at war in a war game…doesn’t have to be with spaceships or on some other planet or in the damn shadow realm. We could still be having plenty of fun beating on each other.

In all the years of playing, only within the past week did I finally raise an alliance alt to level cap incurring the black mark of the achievement and… the derision of my friends who witnessed the heinous act.

It’s weird going into a battleground now… so weird I just haven’t done it since a one-off in DF early in the expansion.

Warcraft 3, dude. The entire premise of Warcraft 3 was the factions coming together to prevent Archimonde from destroying the world tree. Medivh went to Lordaeron and they told him to get bent, so he took his plea to Thrall instead.

In the game. THE GAME. THE SERIES YOU PRETEND TO BE FAMILIAR WITH. THE INTRO OF THE GAME IS MEDIVH TALKING ABOUT THE END OF THE WORLD. Holy god, man.

Isn’t medivh above the factions all together though? In a neutral sense

Edit: I wanted to look up if the horde was actually a thing in wc3 and maybe barely? Google says it wasn’t until wc3 that the undead and nightelves were even introduced so, medivh didn’t quite have the whole picture yet

Yea no like…I just played the game…I don’t sit and do all the roleplay stuff nor do I really care. I honestly don’t remember being friendly with the alliance in warcraft 3 over 20 years ago. I remember the art and the fighting and the “for the horde” being awesome and inspiring.

we are in the war with “In”

:stuck_out_tongue:

Back then you chose your side, built your base and tried to win. It was purely alliance vs horde during gameplay and that’s all I ever really did. I’ve never been much for the long drawn out cutscenes and interplay. Im glad some people like it but as far back as I can remember I’ve been trying to slaughter alliance without regard to anything other than taking joy in their demise.

So you “just played the game” but none of the single player campaign that had you play across both factions? Didn’t witness Arthas culling Stratholme to save his kingdom? Or Illidan consuming the skull of Guldan to save the night elves from their own stubbornness for the second time in ten thousand years?

These weren’t books, they were campaigns that you played in the game.

If all you did is play multiplayer maps… great. It is actually great, because that’s what you had fun doing and I’m an advocate for fun. But the seeds of “We need to work together.” were planted long before World of Warcraft became a thing.

I’m sure I did all the campaign but I legitimately can’t remember a single bit of it. That was actually more than 20 years ago at this point. The only thing I remember was enjoying horde and liking being able to play a war game and have an enemy. If you take the enemy away we’re all just sitting around waiting for a new boss to pop up every 2 years. That’s…no fun. Might be a big part of why subs are so low and lower year after year. It’s not a war anymore.

I’m currently playing 2 Horde and 2 Alliance toons, wasn’t planned could easily have been 4 Horde.

Blood Elf Pally (Prot)
Undead Priest

Void Elf Warlock
Red Draenei Pally (Ret)

If anything I think Tarzan zhu had the best case of why we should stop fighting. But we fought even harder and fought and killed the thing he was afraid of so what does he know.

Weird that you use WC3 as an example of working together. You had 4 factions in Warcraft 3. Alliance, Horde, Elves and Scourge with many battles against each other and lots of mistrust and tension. OP is wanting us all to be fwends and live happily ever after.

I get what you are saying but Medivh served as a warning to ramp up the stakes. The core spirit of the game, WC3 included is faction war. It would have flopped so bad if there was only 1 campaign and you could use any building and any unit.

I seriously doubt the lack of a faction war is why subs are down, considering that PvP has never been a very large part of the game. Estimates are somewhere between 10% and 20% of the playerbase actually bothers with any of the PvP.

I feel like subs are down because there are crap tons of other games you can play. Literally anyone can be a game studio at this point with the tools we have available now, things that weren’t possible twenty years ago without a lot of education.
