I got myself a TBI toward the end of WotLK and don’t remember much of anything in Cata or Pandaland. Legion’s a little hazy as well.
I’d love to go through them with fresh eyes, as it were.

What feel rewarding/fulfilling in MMORPGs is reaching your game objectives by investing the proper amount of time for it.
The genre doesn’t need people like you. If all players were like you the genre would be dead lol.
I am still having fun in classic. Have not done 1 gdkp run. I put the constant advertisers for gdkp or levelling services on ignore. I raided competitively over a decade and a half a go. Here I care more about the friendly guild Im in and doing stuff for fun. If I was still aiming for rapid progression and the best gear I would hate the game.
There are a lot of players who don’t use GDKP or use it very sparingly. Sadly its existence makes playing for gear and progression in an organised guild much harder. If people want to have a real replay of classic form no-GDKP communities and use discord to facilitate grouping. The main reason I don’t like the removal of the RDF is it means people might have to rely on paying to get dungeon runs. No thanks.

Yes, classic wow is dying. It’s lost a ton of players over the course of TBC. The only reason it wasn’t dead before that is because of the pandemic resurgence in the game. But players have falling off very quick over time.

i’m sure you’re the type of person who pays real money in mobile games to skip ahead too. No one is forcing you to skip. Join a guild and progress. It’s way more fun actually playing with friends (maybe you dont have any?) than joining some random gold buyers raid for items

I did enjoy panda pvp but I was just last bracket twinking my former main after cata.
Dragon soul is kinda meh as raid, esp with the fel monkey savior actually getting the KB.

They barely have the devs support retail. I doubt they would have spent anymore resources on creating and testing and balancing anything new for vanilla wow.
The pre nerf heroics in Cata were wonderful.
