For PvP, I feel very squishy and like I don’t hit hard at all.
Is it just a gear thing? Or is WW Monk a bit on the weak side atm?
Maybe my experience will dramatically improve as my ilvl gets higher?
Start by hitting max level, game is only remotely balanced at 120. That said I don’t really pvp but from what I hear WW is pretty good
Guess I could post on my monk
I also feel weak. Tiger eye Brew should be baseline or passive. Monks need some magic damage. I went up against a demon hunter where I actually had the health advantage AND he was being swarmed by mobs in Mechagon. I pooped everything on him all I had. He meta’d, did his three button rotation and beat the crap out of me while passively healing from all the damage I had just done. That’s just unfair. On top of it all, monks have rows and rows of abilities we need and then we have to take talents that add even more. A demon hunter can use about six bar slots for his abilities and cool downs and fill the rest with toys. Broken.
I never really went in depth with playing ww monk or monk in general since it looked really complicated and complex, but…
I feel like they can be really good against a class and just garbo against another one but the post above said some dh (assuming a female butt elf) just easily killed him even with a lot of trash mobs on her(?) and with higher hp so its safe to say WW is doing a bit more awful now.
WW Monk is really not in a great spot for the ‘casual’ More Alt based type PvP players!!! The amount of damage they do is just straight up NOT nearly high enough to compensate for how squishy they are. The playstyle is currently not very fun at all!!!. You spend a good chunk of time literally running from your opponents porting and flying serpent’ing around trying desperately to heal up just a little bit. I don’t like being a melee that cant melee. That has to RUN away!! Anyway, I was just trying this monk out as an alt and these were my initial impressions. Honestly I much prefer my DK or the DH. I can’t really see a reason to ever bring a WW monk into a comp, when you could grab a Rogue, Warrior DK, or DH.
/2 cents
Yeah I’d rather mistweave. They’re squishy too but they can run while healing. All Ww can do is run.
It won’t let me swap to my monk to reply (forever loading the character menu) lol but yeah when it comes to PvP ever since Legion I’ve preferred going Mistweaver. Idk they just took too much from WW and changed the playstyle over time and WW PvP just got less enjoyable for me. I’ve had a lot more fun going MW when it comes to PvP.
I’m hoping for some good changes in the next expansion but idk they keep disappointing me in the class design department and it’s only gotten worse lol.
I am not a good pvp player whatsoever but my wife and I have been doing 2v2 arena for fun (and conquest cap) and WW does not seem terrible. My general impression as well (outside of own personal experience) was that it is also pretty strong pvp wise. You can do a crazy amount of burst with correct set up and keep a fair amount of pressure on. I am not hardcore so would take that opinion with a grain of salt.
Dude, you’re 110. The game isn’t even close to balanced before 120. Windwalker’s damage is completely fine in pvp, it’s a very strong spec. And the rotation really isn’t hard at all. It’s more advanced that most specs, sure, but no spec is hard right now. Just hit 120 and practice.
And yes, a substantial part of their defensive toolkit is their ability to run away and kite. That’s not a bad thing.
I don’t know why it’s saying I’m 110? I’m not… I’m 120. If anything WW was FAR better between 110-119 than it is at 120!!!
Ww needs some physical damage defensives. They just get destroyed by melee cleaves.
WW only needs a big Karma again and probably Healing Elixirs or Transendence Healing or some kind of passive damage reduction aka Inner Strength made baseline for example.
WW is significantly weaker than it was in Legion and likely weaker compared to previous xpacs as well. A lot of crappy things were done to WW that probably wouldn’t fly if Blizzard tried it with any other spec. However, we are still reasonably strong. Despite there being numerous changes that can/should be made to the spec that would basically turn most match ups into our favor and push us back into 1 v 2ing people pretty comfortably territory.
A few of you actually brought some up. Though, I’m a little disappointed in your creativity.
Is an admirable change, but you’d only be righting a wrong instead of implementing a genuine improvement. A better change would be to bring Karma’s effectiveness back to MoP levels in terms of damage xfer and absorb, keep the healing, and add a genuine improvement by making the damage xfer instant instead of in the form of a slow and dispellable DoT. That way we basically have the power to kill high priority targets w/o much resistance in PvP. You could solo charge into a line of ranged. Karma a healer, and let them do most of the work for you provided you aren’t CC’d into next week.
Same with
For one, it used to be our Mastery, but not in the current potato form it is right now. Blizzard basically mixed our ability to ignore armor and mixed it with TeB’s building system. That said, a simple solution would be to just take away the “deals reduced damage” text line from TeB. If you wanted to take it a step further you could add, “ignores all form of passive DR” to have a genuine improvement to the spec. That way no one can hide behind armor or vers. Bear form and Ghost Wolf would mean basically nothing. And we could make a lot more corpses out in the field.
A personal suggestion i’d like to add, is to have RSK and/or FoF (preferably FoF because RSK would only make us a little better than DHs) purge magical abilities per tick/use. It would really clean out the meta. It’s a really effective side nerf to Druids, Shamans that really like Ghost Wolf, Mages, potentially pallies, and more. And conveniently, it evens things back up for WW in those matchups after the loss of FoF stun. The reasoning behind it wouldn’t even be that hard to fabricate lore wise. The description could be, the strikes of the Windwalker evoke such gale forces that the wind rips the very magic from our enemies and scatters it with the breeze.
I could go on and on about optimizing and improving WW in PvP, but that isn’t what this post is about.
My personal gripes with the current situation of our spec aside, it isn’t actually that bad. A lot of our damage comes from our Azerite Traits, so stack up them OPS traits and BiS out the 2ndaries. Beyond that, it’s just practice.
Our kit isn’t as good as it was before because I’m gonna guess people whined, but it’s workable. We used to be able to bring the fight to people in melee and take the hits and dish it back out pretty well, but now we gotta play the kite game and pick our fights. Expel Harm, Turbo Fists (RIP FoF stun), and Alpha Tiger are likely going to be your BFFs and go to’s for PvP talents. The last is your personal preference since C&S makes Expel Harm baseline. Personally, I like Pressure Points for casual PvP because it racks up very pretty kill counts. I’ve had matches going 23-0 thanks to that.
TL;DR: WW has its issues, but you just have to practice and get the hang of it.
Thats the problem right there DHs have 20% leech in meta and with strong aoe they are healing for each hit on all those mobs. As a ww you are suppose to kite meta out
Everyday I HATE PvPing on this Monk more and more. I hate what this class is now and I regret leveling him up!!! Going back to one of my other toons. This experiment and experience was a colossal FAIL!
I suggest deleting your monk immediately before it infects the rest of your characters. One can never be too safe when dealing with such matters.
Withthe changes to pallys bop meaning melee can just dps while being unpeelavke by melee means karma is pretty weak. Need healing elixers
A good fix to karma would be a self buff instead of targeted
Practically, that’s a pretty decent change. It would mean Karma can’t just be immuned off instantly. Though the issue of Karma still being bursted through would still be a thing.
Thematically though, i don’t think it would fly. It pushes Karma into Shield of Vengeance territory, which is just Karma that ret pallies ripped off from us and that just feels wrong on so many levels. Think about it for a bit. You want Karma improved even though right now it’s essentially nerfed in half from its original state, so to improve it you rip off the guys who ripped off Karma from us who are also the guys that have the biggest middle finger to Karma in the game instead of just putting Karma back to original strength with added improvements.
