I feel like the new hallows end is a case study in why wow loses players

Like i’m sure a lot of people here, halloween is one of, if not my actual favorite holiday and time of year. I look forward to game events surrounding it the entire month, probably 2 months ahead. I hype myself up, admittedly sometimes to my own detriment. I’ve played this game since classic, always enjoyed hallow’s end, but i have been bored with it a long time too. So I was excited to hear the event specifically get mentioned in the holiday revamp, and it is disappointing.

So we have the new horseman dungeon. 4 wickermen to interact with to active a 4 stage hardmode. I like this idea, cool, fun challenge. Until I tried it. The boss doesn’t do any of his old classic mechanics, the new mechanics are easily avoided, somehow, the boss is more of a mindless tank and spank than it ever was before. Add these new mechanics to the old fight and it might have actually been a bit of a challenge, but no, they didn’t do that. Not that it is worth doing the hardmode, you don’t actually get anything for doing it anyway, no cool loot, no transmog, nothing but a basic achievement worth 10 points. Woot… It was just so lack luster and boring, it left me asking myself “thats it? thats all it is and there was no point? why did i even want to do this in the first place?”

Follow that up with the new pet you can get for loot. The sinister squashling was awesome. I loved it, looked cool, as a pet collector I was all about it. They could have chosen a pet with any halloween theme, a knight of the alliance, cursed or dishonored or whatever (a mini horseman would have been a great pet), they even could have wrangled something up that was scarlet themed considering the area. What do we get? A ghostly bestest doggo meme. You guys know what this game is right? It’s fantasy, swords and spells being flung everywhere, but you give us casper the friendly cockerspaniel? I hate the overly cute pets, I know some people like them, it just isnt for me. I want something on brand for the event, something I want to actually use. All the super cute dog pets are annoying and obnoxious, and I am a dog lover.

What about the rest of hallow’s end? oh yea, they didn’t do anything with it. Can’t we at least change the exquisite costumes into permanent toys that don’t go away in combat? I love to collect the costume toys and transform while doing raids and dungeons. Honestly, I feel like hallow’s end was just a huge missed opportunity and wasted potential on a game that could easily go all out and make an event that would blow other games out of the water. I would love a 5 man mini dungeon that has us fight the headless horseman, his minions, and the person/people that wronged him. Tell us his story by having us fight through it all, make it a caverns of time 5 man available through october. Just give us something better

I wouldn’t know much about the rewards, because nothing ever drops from the boss, because it’s the worst RNG in existence and Blizz keeps doubling down on it.

It’ll be two weeks of nothing, when I could have gathered up candy from every bucket across every expansion to buy these rewards if they didn’t drop for me. But nope… no fun allowed. Just RNG on top of RNG.

All I got out of these holidays so far is, “We’ve refreshed the holidays and added more crappy RNG for you! Enjoy the frustration, we hate fun!”

Oh. And the new pumpkin off-hand doesn’t even stay hanging from your side when your weapons are sheathed, so it’s a waste, too.

to be clear, Im not specifically griping about drop rates myself, I’ve had the horsemans mount for years now, I’m also the time to run these dungeons on 6 characters a day. The only thing I dont have is the new pet, but honestly, I dont think I care.

So much this, truer words were never spoken.

About ready to rip my hair out over RNG and this dungeon right now, over 100 attempts, no arfus, no drake script, nada.

Many years ago I actually cried when the HH mount dropped for me, out of sheer relief i would never have to set foot in to that fight again.

And yet here I am, running my alt army through this instance to try and brute force these utter garbage drop rates blizzard just will not stop (rather than fix what do they do? they add more… like I honestly just can’t even…)

And to make matters worse i find it infinitely LESS FUN than the old one, no its not hard but its tediously long now for someone trying to just get in and out.
I don’t get the point of trying to make this anything more than what it is, an oversized hallows end loot piñata.
If i wanted challenging content id go do a raid or m+ :woman_shrugging:

Because if it was just a bit challenging we would have hundreds of threads asking for nerfs, nothing that you can queue into will ever be difficult, is made for the most casual of players to clear and they cant handle more than that.

This truly seems to be Activisions motto. They have this “the player must be frustrated” mentality that people tend to grow to hate.

Arfus is a ghost. He definitely fits in with Halloween. But yeah the other Hallow’s end stuff does need more than the off-hand bucket.

Also I don’t mind not chasing around HH’s head in the fight. It was often difficult to see. I just wish the curses meant the items would drop. Because it doesn’t even give me the gear items. Someone traded me one of them because they had too many, lol.

Yup. They think this will make players play the game more in order to farm the rewards. Instead people just get ticked off and leave.

I’ve done the fight with hard mode on each time, and the only drop i’ve seen from the boss so far is the stupid pet.

yeah only thing discouraging me from the horseman fight is…that I’ve had the horseman’s reins for what 13 years ago as of yesterday. I got the horse and wow was I thrilled it was so cool but…then that thrill wore off and I use it…maybe once in a while. Not too thrilled at the cutesy dog from hearthstone they added as a pet in WoW and the dragon armor is meh to me too as I don’t use the dragon it’s for. Only reason i’d try the hardmode would be for the achievment but…that’s not saying much. It awards no mount itself no bonus except raising the odds of the horse supposedly on the first kill per account a day. It was a good idea but I’m sad to agree it was a shot in the dark that failed to hit the mark in my book. I do wish everyone luck who still needs the horse or wants a cute ghost dog but… yeah I’m thinking I’ll pass on old headless this year.

You know what?

I’m surprised the HALLOWEEN EVENT doesnt even have a COSTUME CONTEST.

It seems like a free win to bring back Trial of Style just for this event, with spooky categories.

Trying to get Arfus has been a pain. Seriously when someone has an alt army and can’t even get it, wtf? Why make something meant for fun a drag to get.

Without the curses the Horseman himself is more of a breeze than previous years I feel.

Hallows end dungeon boss is a m+ version with affixes.

All I get is sinister squashlings for my drops useing all the curses.

I was really disappointed that the ‘update’ was just some RNG drops I’ll never see because that’s how my luck is and a change in the Horseman fight.

I mean, even LoTRO, which is not a high-volume game does more. Haunted house, haunted questlines, Corn maze, trick-or-treating and new mounts and cosmetics every year, sometimes new quests.

Might have to go over there for a week or so to get my Halloween fix in. :stuck_out_tongue:
