I don't want to see another thread about Nathria being too hard

I’ve been in several groups today where people died on Heroic Shriekwing before the first invulnerability phase. If you post a thread about Nathria being too difficult I’m just going to assume you’re like them and don’t understand fights even when you have the ilvl to do Heroic raids.

I think its probably one of the harder raids. Not all the bosses but the unforgiving mechanics on some bosses is just rough.

My guild is finding sludgefist to be a little tightly tuned, but that’s how it should be. It’s a fun encounter, overall. Denathrius was my favorite encounter on normal, really looking forward to seeing him on heroic.

I was the same way, he’s a chore on heroic. It doesn’t get hard until phase 3 and the first 2 phases are so rote that I’m half asleep by the time we hit p3.

(Thats an exaggeration, but I do firmly believe that the fight as a whole is a bit of a slog.)

Instant wipe if one person isn’t behind a pillar.
Instant wipe if one shade goes off.
Instant wipe if one beam hits.
Instant wipe if one add is misplaced.
Instant wipe if the phoenix isn’t killed immediately.
Instant wipe if portals are misplaced once.
Instant wipe if you mess up one dance.
Instant wipe if you move too much once.
Instant wipe if you position badly once.
Instant wipe if one add is left up.

it ain’t difficult, its just that every single mechanic is a wipe.

Sludgefist is the only fight that I’ve found to be difficult on heroic. We’ve been burning vantis runes every week to get him down. It’s just a matter of tailoring your strat to fit your group.

I mean, I disagree. Most of those aren’t instant wipes in my raid.

There are some things that are super super simple in that raid, like “Take bomb to other end of room” and “soak the 1-shot mechanic with your group” If you fail these, you just aren’t trying and its pretty rude to waste everyone else’s time.

That said, the raid itself is pretty challenging for a entry-tier raid in an expansion. Sire is no joke.

I think the rewards for the mid-level bosses should be higher - so Council, Inerva, and Sludgefist would give 190, 203, 216, and 229 or maybe even 192, 205, 218, and 231.

Normal Council vs Heroic Sludgefist… H Sludgefist is way easier IMO! But Normal Council gives loot that’s 13 item levels less.

Very strange. I think we wiped to him like 20-25 times the first time, but then we one shot him the next time, and I think two shot him the third time. It’s literally just about having a designated person for melee and ranged to call out which direction to go when rubble comes down. Very easy fight tbh.

Sludgefist is the hardest encounter in the raid because it’s the one where the group relies on melee to do the mechanics right; problem is that most mdps are very used to just slapping the boss in the butt while the rdps/healers deal with everything else.

Sludgefist H is pretty tight. Mostly it’s one of the only bosses on heroic that has a hard DPS check on top of pretty unforgiving mechanics. We probably spent the most time on him and LDV.

Some of the mechancis are pretty tight but for the most part I’ve enjoyed Castle Nathria… Except for Heroic Denathrius, 126 wipes in, it always falls apart in phase 3, even after soaking the second set of orbs, people just drop like flies.

As a raid leader of a casual guild which is 8/10 heroic currently, I will say Nathria is more difficult in my opinion than most first tier raids. It’s also bigger than most introductory raids. Historically, the first raid of the expansion is usually 6-8 bosses. 10 is typically mid tier.

Council is super easy depending on who you kill last.

We spent a lot of time on normal Council until we tried Nik->stav->frieda ONCE and one shot it, haven’t wiped since on normal (though we don’t do normal council anymore)

When we took that to heroic, we killed it on second try, same order.

I can see killing Freida last being problematic with larger groups, though. Since you lose so much of the floor.

Have we even seen one thread yet?

Um how is Shriekwing an instant wipe if one person isnt behind a pillar? My mythic pug groups had pools in bad spots because of that and it was easily a kill.

For normal and heroic I have literally never killed the pheonix in any guild or pug group. It just is not needed. You can mess up all the non p3 portals you want on Arbiter. Its not an instant wipe if you mess up one dance either you just die. You dying is not a wipe unless you play a tank and there are no BRs. Also you can easily kill 2 adds on sire (and some quick push strats involve doing that) you just do not leave them at 100% which is a very low bar to set.

Basically most of the things you think are a wipe, are simply not, except possibly on mythic, but on mythic raiding messing up mechanics has been a wipe for a long long time.

The pools only last 30 seconds, there’s plenty of room.
