I don't want to be a filthy Pirate

Can we reclaim our class fantasy as badass sword wielding Combat Rogues?
Since Vanilla I really loved the fantasy of a sword wielding rogue. I did not care at all for the Bloodsail Bucconeers or any of those swashbuckling scum.
Now I’m forced to be an “Outlaw” with absolutely zero glyph options to opt out the tacked on pirate theme.
Please Blizzard give us some new glyphs to change our guns into other visuals.

Man I’m with you all the way. I raided as combat during Wrath and loved it. Now I’m playing assassin because I do NOT want to play a pirate. Ughhh. I’m so totally with you on that.

Remember when they said the new systems and all the pruning was so that we could have more options and less button bloat and make it all easier for new players to understand?

LOL, hasn’t worked that way at all, the only class with less players is monk, and likely because of the theme isn’t vulgar enough for the average pants on head window licker.

Truly, we had more options with classic wow than we have now. In classic I can play combat daggers my favorite, or combat swords, or combat maces, or combat fists, and all work reasonably well.

I can also play seal fate daggers or seal fate any other weapon in raid, it’s a little less dps on fast fights but gets better with gear and longer fights.

I can also play a plethora of different PvP options being an insane mix and match of my favorite talents and weapon choice and customize that way.

Oh but retail has so much customization of how you can play they say… “I can be a pirate”, licks window.

This is the issue. It’s not our fantasy. It’s some Blizzard dev’s fantasy, and they are so proud of it, they’ll defend it even if it sucks hot garbage… Just like Ashran… Just like Spriest Void Form… Just like Azerite Armor… Just like… You get the point.

Sure would be nice to have a glyph to change out the pistol shot/between the eyes animation with the shuriken or deadly throw animation. Already existing assets and gives people a choice on the whole pirate thing

Also they gotta change the pistol shot sound, it’s like a pop gun. Feels like slapping someone with a wet noodle, very unsatisfying

I would vote for this every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Awesome ninja wielding 2 swords (usually), tearing around in awesome-looking gear (not ICC set)…

And now…Pirates. /yawn

I wasn’t aware I signed up for an online Pirates of the Caribbean mmo. Oh wait, I didn’t.

Give me my ninja back!

(And while we’re at it, can we trash RtB?)

To be fair, their Legion fantasy was Outlaw as Pirate and Sub as Ninja.

Obviously it needs to go but I thought it was an interesting point.

BfA Outlaw is still a bit pirate-y themed. IMO, it doesn’t fit what the class historically has been, and even the addition of BTE and PS hasn’t really helped. We’re still sneaky, stabbity-from-behind, more-ninja-than-pirate-type class. It needs to go back to being full on ninja, like it was pre-Outlaw. The class fantasy from BC to Cata was the best. Vanilla class fantasy was ok, but same as most of the other classes, rogue was kind of a beta phase where Blizz was trying to figure out what they truly wanted out of the class. (I missed too much of MoP and WoD to have much of an opinion there.)

I played Combat a lot in WoD and was very sad to see it changed into Outlaw. In BFA it actually feels better to play than legion, but I’d still like to see it back as Combat. killing spree baseline would help a lot, and just replace pistol shot with revealing strike. I’ll miss between the eyes as a stun. Combat to me was like Autolycus from Hercules, a thiefy thief, not a pirate.

Nah, I like the pirate stuff. Combat was a blander Warrior.

You can like the pirate theme but I think there’s merit in the discussion of having viable glyph options to opt out of the theme.
How hard could it be to change all the pistol shots into something else?

The voidform comment stings but i do agree.

Combat > Outlaw, I’ll always remember my time as a combat rogue in ICC fondly but alas, i can’t look back.

Outlaw is fine but its just not as cool as combat to me personally, so i shelved it.

Couldn’t disagree more.

Assassin, Pirate, Ninja is WAY more varied and interesting than the old Knife Thief, Sword Thief, Sneakier Thief.

Ninjas, not thieves. And class fantasy for each class pre-legion was single class fantasy with themes around it. Post legion class fantasy became each spec is its own class fantasy. Frankly, they did class fantasy a lot better pre-legion. Rogues were ninjas who sneaked through the shadows and destroyed their enemies with guile. Paladins were defenders of the light. Mages were masters of the arcane magics. Deathknights were the risen dead who escaped their bondage to the Lich King. It was better that way, especially for rogues.

Ninja life forever!

Yeah I know. And I like it better that way.

I mean, I just plain disagree. We were clearly just slight variations on the classic D&D rogue before.

Subtlety is far more ninja-like now than any of the 3 specs were previously.

Now at least, people who want to be ninjas can be ninjas, people who want to be pirates can be pirates, and people who want to play D&D rogues can play D&D rogues.

I think it’s pretty lame that people want to make it so that the pirate and ninja players can’t be pirates and ninjas anymore, just so they can have their D&D rogues with slightly different weapons back.

Maybe 3rd and 4th edition rogues… And, hey, guess what: every single class here comes from some form of a D&D class. Warriors are like both barbarians and fighters. Hunters are either rangers or fighters (depending on build and feats). Sub is more like an arcane trickster rogue while what used to be combat rogue is more like a combo of arcane trickster and assassin, while assassin is, well, assassin. But who freaking cares? This isn’t D&D and doesn’t play like D&D. Combat doesn’t last 4 turns, we don’t roll for initiative, and we don’t have a DM saying “I’ll allow it.” This is WOW.

And did you even used to play combat back in the day? ALL raid sets were A) geared for combat, and B) NINJA-themed in aesthetics. Hmmmm…weird how that works.

And you’re welcome to play sub. I have found every iteration of the spec to be mind-bogglingly boring. They entire class should go back to being ninja.

Also, you don’t even play outlaw, so why should you complain that people who do want the spec to go back to ninja theme? Very few outlaw payers like the theme.

Also, you missed my point about the entire spec being ninja. We were all just variants of ninjas. Combat was more of the stand-up-and-fight ninja, assassin was more of the stab-someone-in-a-back-alley ninja, and sub was more of the attack-in-the-dead-of-night type ninja. But we were all ninjas. That was the class fantasy.

Yeah, but see, that’s the thing. That’s YOUR class fantasy, and it’s still in the game. They’ve just added two OTHER class fantasies to the game as well. And I just think it’s kinda *****y that you want to take those other two class fantasies away from the people who like them, so that you can just have 3 variants of your fantasy and and everyone is forced to play it.

So basically, Ninja-themed just means anything with a facemask to you.

Because I think about players other than myself and not just insist that everyone play what I want.

Very few forum posters like anything that they’re posting about. As most people come to the forums to complain about something.

People who are happy with the game mostly just play the game.

Agreed. The whole rogue thing is sneaky. Always has been. Pistol shot should have just been a throwing star or knife.

Thats my 3 c. Now I’m broke.

It’s not just my class fantasy. It’s the class fantasy.

And yet you’re insisting that my spec not bet what I want. Good job.

Thanks for missing every single one of my points. You have shown that you don’t pay attention, you just argue to argue.

It WAS the class fantasy. Then it became 3 different class fantasies, which is a huge improvement for anyone who likes either of the 2 new ones.

Because you don’t want to play the spec that’s actually your class fantasy, so you want two other class fantasies removed from the game.

You like playing a ninja. But you want 3 ninjas, and **** anyone that might actually like playing a pirate.

Well, no, I’m arguing because you’re requesting changes I don’t want to happen.
